Wicked by Jennifer L. Armentrout
(This may or may not have been written ages ago & gotten lost in my 'to post' list - oops!)
Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.
Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.
Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.
But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.
What I say (review): Wicked is snarky, fun, hot and basically Jennifer L. Armentrout at her best. I didn't think it was possible for me to love any JLA guy more than Daemon or Roth, but she's created another fab BBF in Ren!
As much as I love Daemon's and Roth's method of charming their ladies, what I really appreciated about Ren was his direct approach when it came to Ivy. He doesn't try to hide his attraction or what he wants from her. He's handsome, fierce brave, strong and mysterious; so naturally Ivy's going to like him. I appreciated his dedication to his job and to Ivy. I liked that Ren's never overly nice and had enough angst to keep him interesting - plus hello epic tattoos!!
I may have gotten a little sidetracked by Ren but the main thing I loved about Wicked was Ivy. She's really funny and considering the mad skills she demonstrates in her paranormal hunting job she's kinda unfortunate. I loved her friendship with Tink, who by the way is all kinds of awesome. I'll never be able to look at troll dolls in the same way again though! JLA's books always include fab secondary characters and Wicked is no exception. Not only did I love Tink, but Val and Merle were intriguing as were the Fae.
Wicked is a NA book meaning there are some sexy smutty times, so this ones not for the younger YA readers. This is another thing I love about JLA, she really does write across age ranges and genres, making all of her books are different!
4.5 Stars in my Sky!
