The Fake Fiance Groom - Texas Titan Romances
by Taylor Hart

Walker Kent, professional football player, hates the press. After a year of dealing with a dishonorable discharge, he’s in no mood to play nice at a bachelor auction. When a beautiful actress buys him, then announces he’s her fiancé … his barely endurable night has just turned to purgatory.
After discovering her ex is engaged to her best friend (ex best friend, thank you very much) Scarlett Powers is desperate to find a fake fiancé to take to her brother’s wedding to show the happy couple she’s NOT a pity case. Good thing she spots the perfect bad-boy football player to take with her—Walker Kent. Too bad he turns her down!
After re-negotiating terms of the fake fiancé deal, Scarlett soon finds herself in the middle of a controlling father, a cougar mother-in-law, and a crazy bridezilla who wants to personalize the wedding with DIY craft projects for the guests. When Walker sweeps her off her feet by taking her on an ‘off books’ date, she finds herself on a Ferris wheel, sharing things with him she’s never told another living soul.
When a secret comes to light and she is forced to tell the truth, she has to make a choice—walk away or risk losing the only thing that’s ever been real.

Whatcha Reading Wednesday - Fool's Errand

After picking the series up super cheap in a charity shop I'm re-reading this beaut...

Fool's Errand - Tawny Man #1
by Robin Hobb

What they say: For fifteen years FitzChivalry Farseer has lived in self-imposed exile, assumed to be dead by almost all who once cared about him. But now, into his isolated life, visitors begin to arrive: Fitz’s mentor from his assassin days; a hedge-witch who foresees the return of a long-lost love; and the Fool, the former White Prophet, who beckons Fitz to fulfill his destiny.

Then comes the summons he cannot ignore. Prince Dutiful, the young heir to the Farseer throne, has vanished. Fitz, possessed of magical skills both royal and profane, is the only one who can retrieve him in time for his betrothal ceremony, thus sparing the Six Duchies profound political embarrassment . . . or worse. But even Fitz does not suspect the web of treachery that awaits him—or how his loyalties will be tested to the breaking point.

Review - A Scandalous Deal

A Scandalous Deal - The Four Hundred #2
by Joanna Shupe

What they say: They call her Lady Unlucky…

With three dead fiancés, Lady Eva Hyde has positively no luck when it comes to love. She sets sail for New York City, determined that nothing will deter her dream of becoming an architect, certainly not an unexpected passionate shipboard encounter with a mysterious stranger. But Eva’s misfortune strikes once more when she discovers the stranger who swept her off her feet is none other than her new employer.

Or is it Lady Irresistible?

Phillip Mansfield reluctantly agrees to let the fiery Lady Eva oversee his luxury hotel project while vowing to keep their relationship strictly professional. Yet Eva is more capable—and more alluring—than Phillip first thought, and he cannot keep from drawing up a plan of his own to seduce her.

When a series of onsite “accidents” makes it clear someone wants Lady Unlucky to earn her nickname, Phillip discovers he’s willing to do anything to protect her—even if it requires A SCANDALOUS DEAL.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: As a historical story A Scandalous Deal has a very modern feel. The main characters both work in forward thinking roles.

Lady Unlucky *ahem* Lady Eva is determined to escape the stigma surrounding her in England and protect her Father's business. Phillip is bowled over when he meets such an unconventional lady and is completely charmed by her.

The chemistry between them is interesting. They are both intelligent and stubborn. Eva is used to challenging convention, but it takes a bit of persuasion to bring Phillip round to her way of thinking. So with them working together the sparks fly pretty quickly.

Joanna Shupe has invested a lot of effort into researching the period and working environments in America at the time. The strikes and male dominant jobs all ring true. I loved seeing Eva stand up for herself and other women.

I liked the secondary characters and would like to see more of Eva's friends.

Am Reading - Kiss of the Royal

I'm currently reading this YA fantasy about magic, forbidden love and kick ass princesses...

Kiss of the Royal
by Lindsey Duga

What they say: In the war against the Forces of Darkness, the Royals are losing. Princess Ivy is determined to end this centuries-long conflict once and for all, so her new battle partner must succeed where the others failed. Prince Zach’s unparalleled skill with a sword, enhanced by Ivy’s magic Kiss, should make them an unstoppable pair—but try convincing Zach of that.

Prince Zach has spent his life preparing for battle, but he would rather be branded a heretic than use his lips as nothing more than a way to transfer magic. A kiss is a symbol of love, and love is the most powerful weapon they have—but try convincing Ivy of that.

With the fate of their world on the line, the battlefield has become a testing ground, and only one of them can be right. Falling for each other wasn’t part of the plan—but try convincing their hearts of that.

Releases This Week - I Flipping Love You

A little, light reading for this sunny long weekend...

I Flipping Love You - Shacking Up #3
by Helena Hunting

What they say: A new kind of love story about flipping houses, taking risks, and landing that special someone who’s move-in ready…

SHE’S GOT CURB APPEAL

Rian Sutter grew up with the finer things in life. Spending summers in The Hamptons was a normal occurrence for her until her parents lost everything years ago. Now Rian and her sister are getting their life, and finances, back on track through real estate. Not only do they buy and sell houses to the rich and famous, but they finally have the capital to flip their very own beachfront property. But when she inadvertently catches the attention of a sexy stranger who snaps up every house from under her, all bets are off…

HE’S A FIXER UPPER

Pierce Whitfield doesn’t normally demo kitchens, install dry wall, or tear apart a beautiful woman’s dreams. He’s just a down-on-his-luck lawyer who needed a break from the city and agreed to help his brother work on a few homes in the Hamptons. When he first meets Rian, the attraction is undeniable. But when they start competing for the same pieces of prime real estate, the early sparks turn into full-blown fireworks. Can these passionate rivals turn up the heat on their budding romance — without burning down the house?

I FLIPPING LOVE YOU, set in the Shacking Up world, follows two people, both working in real estate, who find themselves vying for the same properties in the Hamptons, leading to a sometimes-not-so-friendly competition.

Leaving Everest - Tour

Leaving Everest
by Megan Westfield

Little known fact: Because of the hurricane-force winds that blow directly across the top of Mount Everest, there are only a handful of days in the year it can be summited. These breaks in the wind typically happen in the month of May. As in right now.

Today we are celebrating by sharing Megan Westfield’s new release—a new-adult romance set on Mount Everest. Hurry and grab it because it’s temporarily on sale for $0.99!

Twenty-year-old Emily Winslowe has had an adventurous upbringing. Daughter of a Himalayan mountain guide, she has climbed Mount Everest and other peaks most Americans only dream of. But for all her mountaineering prowess, she's lacking some key experiences. Namely, guys. Especially one guy in particular—Luke, her childhood best friend who she hasn't seen since he left for college in the United States two years ago.

Luke unexpectedly reappears as a guide just in time for the Everest climbing season. He's even more handsome than she remembers, and that something that had been building between them during their last season together is back in front of them, bigger than ever.

The problem is, there's a detail about Emily's past that Luke doesn't know. It's the reason she ended up in the Himalayas in the first place...and the reason she must make it to the summit of Mount Everest this year. It's also the reason she would never consider following him back to Washington after the climbing season ends.

But first, they'll have to survive the mountain.

Excerpt:

Dad went over to Luke, shaking hands and hug-slapping him heartily.

Now it was just me left at the table. Well, me and Pasang, who was watching me with furrowed brows, probably wondering why I wasn’t joining everyone at the door. I quickly collected myself, but still, my head spun and my pulse raced as I walked toward Luke.

I stood in front of him, and for several beats of my pounding heart, it was like the two of us were the only
people in the world. My eyes were on him, but I couldn’t bring him into focus. From this perspective, nothing about him had changed, but at the same time everything about him was completely foreign. It was Luke. Right here in front of me. And he was so incredibly handsome.

“Emily Winslowe,” he said finally.

I wrapped my arms around him, and he did the same, with a grip that was tight and strong but not constricting like Mingma’s. I was dizzy with too many sensations. There was reprieve from the worry about him not posting on Circ and happiness that we were back in Tengboche together after all this time. But there was also hurt that he hadn’t so much as hinted he was coming here.

Most of all, I was shocked. A shock that was quickly turning to panic.

I wasn’t ready for what was happening in my body. It was like my old crush had gone from fifty to a hundred in less than two minutes. The feelings I’d been toying with for almost two years over the safe filter Circ provided were now real-life, directly in front of me.

Random details jumped out, intoxicating my senses and preventing me from releasing him from the hug. Like how firm and warm his body was. How he smelled like sunscreen and cold, fresh Himalayan air. And how there was a trace of stubble on his cheek, which was currently pressed against mine.

This was my friend. The best friend I’d ever had, even though in the latter years we’d been around each other only a few months a year. I didn’t want to let go. I wanted this moment to be happening without anyone else in the room because it somehow felt like a direct continuation of those moments right before the earthquake. Like a continuation of what had been on the cusp of happening, something that would have put us squarely out of friends territory.

We let go at the same instant.

“It’s good to see you,” he said. His teasing smile and crinkly eyes were gone, replaced by the same pensive
expression he’d had when I first saw him.

All I managed was a nod as Mingma ushered us back to the table.

REBEL HEART - Review

REBEL HEART

Rush and Gia’s story continues in the gripping conclusion to Rebel Heir…

How to screw up a great summer in the Hamptons:

Sleep with your boss. Check.

Blow all your money on a rental you can’t afford. Check.

How to walk away from a man you fall in love with at the end of a summer:

…I’ll let you know when I figure it out.

Rebel Heir is the second book in the Rush Series Duet. Book One, Rebel Heir, is available for sale now.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: Rebel Heart is the second part of Penelope Ward's & Vi Keeland’s Rush Series Duet. It's not a standalone so you'll need to have read Rebel Heir first.

After the huge cliffy at the end of the first book, the action here is just as dramatic. It not only keeps up with the rapid pace and tension but adds even more.

Gia is traumatised by THAT huge revelation but still hopeful for the future. She loves Rush and wants to make it work with him. He's got a LOT to move past if he's going to accept her as she is. I'm not sure I'd be able to do so in similar circumstances.

Rush makes for a fab BBF. He's got the sexy bad boy swagger down. I'm still not 100% on board with the speed of their romance but I really appreciated his caring and sweet side plus he really knows how to pull off a romantic gesture.

Oh the angst! Rebel Heart is full of romantic angst. Drama lovers will be all over this one! I would have liked a little more time spent on them as a couple and on their back stories. BUT I enjoyed this sassy story, which is full of the usual Penelope and Vi naughty dialogue and flirty banter.

3.5 Stars in my Sky!

Previous book in the series:

How to kick off a great summer in the Hamptons:

Snag a gorgeous rental on the beach. Check.

Get a job at a trendy summer haunt. Check.

How to screw up a great summer in the Hamptons:

Fall for the one guy with a dark leather jacket, scruff on his face, and intense eyes that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the tony looking crowd. A guy you can’t have when you’ll be leaving at the end of the season.

Check. Check. Check.

I should add—especially when the guy is your sexy, tattooed God of a boss.

Especially when he not only owns your place of employment but inherited half of the town.

Especially when he’s mean to you.

Or so I thought.

Until one night when he demanded I get in his car so he could drive me home because he didn’t want me walking in the dark.

That was sort of how it all started with Rush.

And then little by little, some of the walls of this hardass man started to come down.

I never expected that the two of us, seemingly opposites from the outside, would grow so close.

I wasn't supposed to fall for the rebel heir, especially when he made it clear he didn’t want to cross the line with me.

As the temperature turned cooler, the nights became hotter. My summer became a lot more interesting—and complicated.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Whatcha Reading Wednesday - The Burning Maze

What are you reading this week?

The Burning Maze - The Trials of Apollo #3
by Rick Riordan

What they say: The formerly glorious god Apollo, cast down to earth in punishment by Zeus, is now an awkward mortal teenager named Lester Papadopoulos. In order to regain his place on Mount Olympus, Lester must restore five Oracles that have gone dark. But he has to achieve this impossible task without having any godly powers and while being duty-bound to a confounding young daughter of Demeter named Meg. Thanks a lot, Dad.

With the help of some demigod friends, Lester managed to survive his first two trials, one at Camp Half-Blood, and one in Indianapolis, where Meg received the Dark Prophecy. The words she uttered while seated on the Throne of Memory revealed that an evil triumvirate of Roman emperors plans to attack Camp Jupiter. While Leo flies ahead on Festus to warn the Roman camp, Lester and Meg must go through the Labyrinth to find the third emperor—and an Oracle who speaks in word puzzles—somewhere in the American Southwest. There is one glimmer of hope in the gloom-filled prophecy: The cloven guide alone the way does know. They will have a satyr companion, and Meg knows just who to call upon...

Review - Lighthouse Beach

Lighthouse Beach
by Shelley Noble

What they say: From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shelley Noble comes a heartrending and uplifting novel about friendship, love, and what we’re willing to sacrifice for our dreams.

What was supposed to be an idyllic wedding leads to an unexpected journey of self-discovery…

When Lillo Gray pulls up to Kennebunkport’s most exclusive hotel wearing a borrowed dress and driving a borrowed VW van, she knows she’s made a big mistake. She’s not even sure why Jessica Parker invited her to her posh wedding. They haven’t seen each other since they were unhappy fourteen-year-old girls at fat camp. And now they’re from two completely different worlds. There’s no way Lillo fits in the rarefied circles Jessica travels in.

Jess isn’t sure she’s ready to go through with this wedding, but she’s been too busy making everyone else happy to think about what she wants. But when she and her two closest friends, Allie and Diana, along with Lillo, discover her fiancé with his pants down in the hotel parking lot, she’s humiliated…and slightly relieved. In a rush to escape her crumbling life, Jess, Allie, and Diana pile into Lillo’s beat-up old van and head up the coast to Lighthouse Island. Once there, she hopes to figure out the next chapter in her life.

Nursing broken hearts and broken dreams, four lost women embark on a journey to find their way back into happiness with new love, friendship, and the healing power of Lighthouse Beach.

I received a copy from the publisher (via NetGalley) in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: Lighthouse Beach is many things. It's sweet, inspirational, happy, sad and fun all at once.

Focusing on love and friendship, it tells the story or stories of Jess, Lillo, Allie and Diana, oh and of course a wedding (ish)! We see numerous secrets uncovered along the way, a certain revelation threw me for a loop, whilst others made me smile (not sure what that says about me).

I kept asking myself what I'd do if I were in a situation like Lillo, Allie and Diana. I'm not sure I'd manage to put my point across in such spectacular fashion!

Oh Jess. I wanted her to stand up for herself. I'm sure numerous women find themselves in a similar situation to her in terms of family expectations (well sort of). Hopefully they'd stop anything they don't really want before things reach this far though...

Despite the beginning it has a great holiday read vibe and I'd like to know what happens next on Lighthouse Island.

What a Difference a Duke Makes - Review

What a Difference a Duke Makes - School for Dukes #1
by Lenora Bell

What they say: Wanted: Governess for duke's unruly children

Edgar Rochester, Duke of Banksford, is one of the wealthiest, most powerful men in England, but when it comes to raising twins alone, he knows he needs help. The only problem is the children have chased away half the governesses in London. Until the clever, bold, and far-too-enticing Miss Mari Perkins arrives.

Lost: One heart to an arrogant duke

Mari knows how to wrap even the most rebellious children around her finger. But their demanding, wickedly handsome father? He won't be quite so easy to control. And there's something else she can't seem to command. Her heart. The foolish thing beats so wildly every time the duke is near.

Found: A forbidden passion neither can deny

As his employee, Mari is strictly off-limits. But what if she's the one breaking all his rules? In the game of governess versus duke, how can Edgar maintain his defenses when the only thing he wants to do is let the tempting beauty win?

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: What a Difference a Duke Makes is a sweet, light and quick read. The writing is good and the story charming.

After a serious of unfortunate events, a late arrival and an accidental act of deception (well sort of) Mari not Mary finds herself as the new governess to Edgar Rochester, Duke of Banksford's illegitimate twins.

A la The Sound of Music, the twins have driven off numerous previous governesses with their antics but have met their match with Mari who is not easily scared - she really needs this job! The twins are really sweet and made me smile, as did the way Mari handles them and their grumpy father.

Mari is always cheerful and she slowly begins to win them all over with her sunny outlook and loyalty. I sometimes find such unyielding positivity irritating but I liked it here and found her to be endlessly charming.
