What they say: People make mistakes when they're young, but how they choose to come back from those mistakes is what matters in the end.
Savannah Morgan found true love at a very early age, but one rash decision — one that she would regret for the rest of her life — was all it took to end her relationship with the love of her life.
For seven years, Jeremy Matthews has accepted being "just friends" with the only woman he's ever loved. Finally deciding that enough is enough, Jeremy relentlessly pursues Savannah until he forces her to see just how right they are for each other.
When Savannah's past mistake is revealed, threatening the future she so desperately wants, the fate of their relationship lies in Jeremy’s hands. Will he be able to forgive Savannah, or is the relationship truly over?
When struggles and obstacles threaten the foundation of Savannah and Jeremy's relationship, will they choose to let each other go, or rise from the ashes of the past to claim their happiness?
Author Spotlight:
Jessica was born and raised in Texas—where she’ll stay because she claims the cost of living in Texas excuses the god-awful weather. She is first and foremost a wife and mother. Because of those two things, she’s also a self proclaimed wino and coffee addict.
She’s always been and avid lover of all types of books, but romances are her main favourites.
Jessica’s husband likes to say reading is her obsession, but she likes to call it her passion…there’s a difference.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!
What I say (review): Rising from the Ashes is the second in Jessica Prince's Picking Up the Pieces series but it works well as a standalone. This time the focus is on Savannah 'Savvy' (Emmy's bestie from book 1) and Jeremy (who we also met in Picking Up the Pieces).
Told in dual POV Rising from the Ashes tells the story of why Savvy and Jeremy (former high school sweethearts) are no longer together. The dual POV works really well here because we see both sides of the argument surrounding their relationship and breakup. Whilst Savvy is still struggling with a decision she made years ago, Jeremy has no idea why Savvy ended things. It was interesting to see how they both dealt with the spilt and how they work as friends now.
Savvy is sweet, witty, fierce and vulnerable; it was interesting to see her as more than Emmy's friend and support. Jeremy is still friends with Savvy but has always loved her and doesn't really understand what happened all those years ago. I really liked Jeremy and didn't think he deserved a lot of what happened to him. I won't hold his choice of girlfriend against him too much (*ahem* Charlotte), although it did make me wonder how guys can be so blind to how horrible girls can be.
The secondary characters are well imagined and I loved the friend group dynamic they had going on. I did wanna shout at Emmy a couple of times for being kinda selfish, but in general they were a fun addition to the story.!

Excerpt:
For the past seven years, I let you control how things went between us whether I agreed with them or not.”
I opened my mouth to interrupt him, but he held up his hand and cut me off.
“I wasn’t lying when I said I wasn’t letting you go this time. But from here on out, we’re doing this my way.”
I felt my hackles rising again. “Excuse me?”
He shot a smile at me that had my knees quaking. “Now, don’t start the attitude again. It won’t change a damn thing.”
I let out a huff and narrowed my eyes at him.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that you want me just as badly as I want you, and sugar, you gotta know I love that. But I’m done letting you dictate how things are going to be between us. It’s my turn now.”
