This Love Review

University of Branton #1 by Nazarea Andrews

What they say: She wants a summer job and a ride to a wedding. He wants an assistant and a distraction from the mess his life had become. They didn't know they needed each other.

Avery Emili needs two grand. Two grand and a plane ticket--her sister is counting on her to get to Jamaica for her wedding. But the semester is over, and tutoring college freshman and high school students has dried up until the fall.

Atticus Grimes needs help--the messy split with his wife left the twenty-eight year old professor scrambling to keep things together as the semester winds down. Now he's got a research grant he has to actually do research for and all he wants to do is drown himself in a tall bottle of bourbon.

When Avery sees his ad for an assistant, all she's thinking is a summer job. But as they spend time together, in the office and out, both of them begin to realize something is there. Something that can't happen--he's a professor and she's a student. And both of them have histories, pasts that won’t let go. Can two broken people pulled apart by expectations find a way to be whole?

What I say: This Love follows student Avery and Uni professor Atticus (epic name, right?). Avery needs a job to stay at Uni over the summer, to avoid going home. Atticus needs an assistant to help complete his research project on time. This Love is about a forbidden romance between a college student and professor; set over a summer when the two are working closely together on a research project.

Although they are in very different places in their lives, they both have some pretty deep emotional scars and are trying to move on from the past (with varying degrees of success). The duel POV's helped me to see their inner turmoil, plus it is always good to get the male POV. Atticus's voice provided some great insights into how guys deal with emotional upheaval.

I really liked Avery and I enjoyed trying to figure out what her secret was. With his tattoos and bad boy good looks, Atticus wasn't your average professor, but I think this is what made the story work. Atticus's friend Dane was a great secondary character and I'm looking forward to reading his story next.

This Love is short and sweet, but I did think it came to a rather fast conclusion and I would have liked to see more of them facing their issues. I did think things happened very quickly, especially if your factor in their pasts, but I really liked getting to know Atticus and Avery's secrets.

3.5 Stars in my Sky!
