ROME’S CHANCE - Review & Excerpt Tour

From New York Times Bestselling author Joanna Wylde comes ROME’S CHANCE, a new novella in her Reapers MC series, brought to you by 1001 Dark Nights

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Joanna Wylde comes a new story in her Reapers MC series…

Rome McGuire knew he was in trouble the first time he saw her.

She was sweet and pretty and just about perfect in every way. She was also too young and innocent for the Reapers Motorcycle Club. He did the right thing, and walked away.

The second time, he couldn’t resist tasting her.

Gorgeous and smart, fun and full of wonder, she jumped on his bike and would’ve followed him anywhere. Still, she deserved a shot at happiness somewhere bigger and better than a town like Hallies Falls. Walking away wasn’t so easy that time, but her family needed her and he had a job to do.

When she came around a third time, he’d had enough. Randi Whittaker had been given two chances to escape, and now it was time for Rome to take his.

This time, the only way Randi would be leaving Hallies Falls was on the back of Rome’s bike.

What I say: I'm a huge fangirl when it comes to Joanna Wylde's Reaper's MC books so am always impatient for the next instalment in the series. Rome's Chance is a novella created for the 1001 Dark Nights series. The action picks up years after we meet Gage, Tinker, Shade and Mandy in Reaper's Fire and Shade's Lady. This story is about Rome and Randi  -who have both been mentioned/introduced briefly in previous stories.

Randi returns home to small town Hallies Falls for a quick visit, but finds a complicated family situation - her younger brother and sister really need her.

Oh Rome! Not only do I love his name but he really fulfils the bad ass biker alpha role to the extreme. Rome is demanding and oh-so-protective when it comes to Randi. What I particularly appreciated was how he doesn't play games but instead goes pedal to the metal and is all in with his pursuit of her.

Holy hot chemistry batman! Be prepared to blush and swoon whilst reading this novella because when Randi and Rome get together it's intense!

Randi is determined to fight her attraction to Rome, to focus on her siblings, but finds it increasingly more difficult to ignore him and their chemistry.

On a side note, I flipping loved Randi's siblings - they're super cute!

4 Stars in my Sky!

Excerpt:

I couldn’t figure out what’d happened.
One minute I’d been having one of the most exciting sexual experiences of my life. The next my ribs were being crushed as Rome slammed into me. Then I was on my feet, trying to catch my breath, as people shouted all around us. The music had stopped. Thankfully, Rome’s big body formed a barrier between me and the rest of the room, because everyone else in the place had lost their minds.
For an instant, I thought maybe I’d be safe behind him. Then some guy in a cowboy hat launched toward us, fists flying. I don’t know what I expected, maybe that Rome would start punching him—you know, like they always do in movies—but instead he ducked, then started dragging me toward the bar. More shouting. I saw a man lift a chair and slam it down against another guy’s back from behind. The poor bastard went down hard, so hard that his head literally bounced on the floor. He couldn’t even get his hands up in time to break the fall.
This definitely wasn’t a movie.
I needed to get the hell out of here. Now.
Rome didn’t need to drag me any more—adrenaline had set in and sexy times were forgotten. My instincts said to run, and I wasn’t going to argue. Running wasn’t really possible, though, what with people and bottles and tables flying all around us.
It felt like it took an hour just to get across the room, although it was probably just a few seconds. Nothing touched me. Every other step, he was pushing me to the side, standing over me, or slamming into someone to get them out of the way until we reached an opening at the far end of the bar. He shoved me down behind it, toward a group of women huddling under the safety of the ledge.
“Stay here and keep your head down!” he said, catching my eyes to make sure I heard him. “I’ll be back soon.”
With that, he left to wade back into the crowd.

Sky in the Deep - Review

Sky in the Deep
by Adrienne Young

What they say: Raised to be a warrior, seventeen-year-old Eelyn fights alongside her Aska clansmen in an ancient, god-decreed rivalry against the Riki clan. Her life is brutal but simple: train to fight and fight to survive. Until the day she sees the impossible on the battlefield—her brother, fighting with the enemy—the brother she watched die five years ago.

Eelyn loses her focus and is captured. Now, she must survive the winter in the mountains with the Riki, in a village where every neighbor is an enemy, every battle scar possibly one she delivered. But when the Riki village is raided by a ruthless clan settling in the valley, Eelyn is even more desperate to get back to her beloved family.

She is given no choice but to trust Fiske, her brother’s friend who tried to kill her the day she was captured. They must do the impossible: unite the clans to fight together, or risk being slaughtered one by one. Driven by a love for her clan and her growing love for Fiske, Eelyn must confront her own definition of loyalty and find a way to forgive her brother while daring to put her faith in the people she’s spent her life hating.

“This book will draw you in and make you finish it in one sitting. Final Verdict: This book is perfect for fans of mythology, action, and romance. This goes onto the list as one of the best books in 2018.” – Young Adult Books Central

“A brutal new viking inspired fantasy, SKY IN THE DEEP brings us one of the most badass new main characters we’ve ever read…She knows what she believes in—just like how we believe that you need to read this book!” – Epic Reads

Released 24th April by Wednesday Books

I received a copy (from Wednesday Books) in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: I haven't seen many YA Viking stories, so I jumped at the chance to read Sky in the Deep. It's a pleasant and dramatic take on the legendary warriors.

Eelyn is a young viking warrior (I've seen similar characters called shield-maidens in the past) who believes in honour, defending her family and finding vengeance for her brother. She's headstrong and fierce so is unprepared to find herself held captive by her groups biggest enemy.

The action is violent, they are vikings after all, but never in detail that is too mature for a YA story. Eelyn is prepared to risk everything to save her family and honour her God. She's very determined in her quest but as the story develops she's willing to learn, to see other peoples side of things.

I enjoyed reading about Eelyn and her family, although I did find the names a little confusing at times. I'd like to see another story about some of the other characters in the future please...

3.5 Stars in my Sky!

Coming Soon - Listen to Your Heart

Listen to Your Heart
by Kasie West

What they say: Talking to other people isn't Kate Bailey's favorite activity. She'd much rather be out on the lake, soaking up the solitude and sunshine. So when her best friend, Alana, convinces Kate to join their high school's podcast, Kate is not expecting to be chosen as the host. Now she'll have to answer calls and give advice on the air? Impossible.

But to Kate's surprise, she turns out to be pretty good at the hosting gig. Then the podcast gets in a call from an anonymous guy, asking for advice about his unnamed crush. Kate is pretty sure that the caller is gorgeous Diego Martinez, and even surer that the girl in question is Alana. Kate is excited for her friend ... until Kate herself starts to develop feelings for Diego. The Phoenix Cycle: The Best Shall Rise

Genre: YA/Adult Dystopian
Release Date: July 21st 2017
The Department of Smoke

The Best Shall Rise

New San Francisco is the last city standing on a world ravaged by storms of ash and debris. The city survived by putting the ideals of the American dream on steroids and inspiring its people to persevere, though they have become ruthless in the process. Its citizens are ruled by the General, who has made sure that his people understand that gentleness and pity have become weaknesses that nature no longer tolerates.

Now Steve and Leslie must choose whether they will apply for the General’s once in a lifetime opportunity to “Rise from the Ashes” and join the Inner Circle that rules the city. If they don’t, they will be damned to spend the rest of their lives in the ghettos of Edingburg, a place where virtual reality has become a government-subsidized addiction.

For Steve, the choice is easy. His loyalties lie with the IRA, a revolutionary army led by a voice only known as “Mom.” They are trying to overthrow the General and free the people of New San Francisco from the cruelties of the City Guard. Steve’s mission is to broadcast a recording of a speech that a famous philosopher died to tell. Many thousands have and will perish to get this message out, but is anyone willing to listen?

Excerpt:

"Everyone laughed. The cacophony made my head hurt. I struggled against the hands holding me. I had to get out of here before things got worse.
Suddenly, the shouting died down.
My eyes flew open. My search for the grownup landed on a pair of gorgeous blue eyes....
Julius!
He pushed the crowd aside.
“Let her go. Right. Now.” His voice boomed against the walls. A couple of the kids covered their ears.
I felt the hands holding me quiver.
“Listen Herc, this girl is the reason you’re no longer quarterback and-”
“I don’t care what you think, right now, Grunski. Let go of her right now.” He closed his fingers into two giant fists and scanned the area as if searching for victims to pummel.

“I’m already leaving this school. I have no problem beating your head in on the way out.”

I have been writing for as long as I can remember. One of my mentors (you know who you are) often reminds me of my first foray into the world of literary fiction. It was a lively story about a bee's journey to find a pot of missing honey. He says that I have improved since then. I think that he's right.
