Coming Soon - The Forgotten Hours

The Forgotten Hours
by Katrin Schumann

What they say: In this evocative debut novel, Katrin Schumann weaves a riveting story of past and present—and how love can lead us astray.
At twenty-four, Katie Gregory feels like life is looking up: she’s snagged a great job in New York City and is falling for a captivating artist—and memories of her traumatic past are finally fading. Katie’s life fell apart almost a decade earlier, during an idyllic summer at her family’s cabin on Eagle Lake when her best friend accused her father of sexual assault. Throughout his trial and imprisonment, Katie insisted on his innocence, dodging reporters and clinging to memories of the man she adores.
Now he’s getting out. Yet when Katie returns to the shuttered lakeside cabin, details of that fateful night resurface: the chill of the lake, the heat of first love, the terrible sting of jealousy. And as old memories collide with new realities, they call into question everything she thinks she knows about family, friends, and, ultimately, herself. Now, Katie’s choices will be put to the test with life-altering consequences.

Coming Soon - I Owe You One

Another lovely chick-lit treat from Sophie! Releases 9th Feb!

I Owe You One
by Sophie Kinsella

What they say: From #1 New York Times bestselling author Sophie Kinsella, an irresistible story of love and empowerment about a young woman with a complicated family, a handsome man who might be “the one,” and an IOU that changes everything

Fixie Farr has always lived by her father’s motto: “Family first.” But since her dad passed away, leaving his charming housewares store in the hands of his wife and children, Fixie spends all her time picking up the slack from her siblings instead of striking out on her own. The way Fixie sees it, if she doesn’t take care of her father’s legacy, who will? It’s simply not in her nature to say no to people.

So when a handsome stranger in a coffee shop asks her to watch his laptop for a moment, Fixie not only agrees—she ends up saving it from certain disaster. Turns out the computer’s owner is an investment manager. To thank Fixie for her quick thinking, Sebastian scribbles an IOU on a coffee sleeve and attaches his business card. But Fixie laughs it off—she’d never actually claim an IOU from a stranger. Would she?

Then Fixie’s childhood crush, Ryan, comes back into her life and his lack of a profession pushes all of Fixie’s buttons. She wants nothing for herself—but she’d love Seb to give Ryan a job. And Seb agrees, until the tables are turned once more and a new series of IOUs between Seb and Fixie—from small favors to life-changing moments—ensues. Soon Fixie, Ms. Fixit for everyone else, is torn between her family and the life she really wants. Does she have the courage to take a stand? Will she finally grab the life, and love, she really wants?

New Release - Catastrophe Queen

This beaut is releases today...

Catastrophe Queen
by Emma Hart

What they say: It’s not you. It’s me.

No, seriously. It is me. Not only does my name literally mean “unfortunate,” but that’s the story of my life.

Everything I touch turns to cr*p. An apartment fire—that I swear I was not responsible for—means I’m living back at home with my s*x-mad parents. Yay, me!

Which is why I need my new job as personal assistant to Cameron Reid to get back on my feet. Three months in this job and I can move back out and, hopefully, remember to turn off my flat iron once in a while.

Ahem.

On paper, my job is easy. Make coffee. Book appointments. Keep everything in order.

Until I walk in on my boss, half-naked, wearing nothing but the kind of tiny white towel that dreams are made of.

Now, nothing is easy—except our mutual attraction. But he’s my boss, and you know what they say about mixing work and pleasure: unless you do p***, it’s just not worth it.

Or is it?

Song of the Dead - Am Reading

I adore this cover! It's simple but elegant.

Song of the Dead
by Sarah Glenn Marsh

What they say: The Dead must stay buried.

Karthia is nothing like it used to be. The kingdom's borders are open for the first time in nearly three hundred years, and raising the dead has been outlawed. Odessa is determined to explore the world beyond Karthia's waters, hoping to heal a heart broken in more ways than she can count. But with Meredy joining the ocean voyage, vanquishing her sorrow will be a difficult task.

Despite the daily reminder of the history they share, Odessa and Meredy are fascinated when their journey takes them to a land where the Dead rule the night and dragons roam the streets. Odessa can't help being mesmerized by the new magic--and by the girl at her side. But just as she and Meredy are beginning to explore the new world, a terrifying development in Karthia summons them home at once.

Growing political unrest on top of threats from foreign invaders means Odessa and Meredy are thrust back into the lives they tried to leave behind while specters from their past haunt their tenuous relationship. Gathering a force big enough to ward off enemies seems impossible, until one of Queen Valoria's mages creates a weapon that could make them invincible. As danger continues to mount inside the palace, Odessa fears that without the Dead, even the greatest invention won't be enough to save their fates.

In this enthralling, heartrending sequel to Reign of the Fallen, Odessa faces the fight of her life as the boundaries between the Dead and the living are challenged in a way more gruesome than ever before.

It once seemed so easy to Prince Rhen, the heir to Emberfall. The most important things to know about me are that I'm punctual, I love grammar and sushi, and I'm very intolerant of intolerance. The least important things to know about me are that I like to knit and I couldn't spell "acoustic" for 40 years. I've wanted to write since I was ten, and I finally did it. Only a Breath Apart - Review

Only a Breath Apart
by Katie McGarry

What they say: Bestselling author Katie McGarry’s trademark wrong-side-of-the-tracks romance is given a new twist in the gritty YA contemporary novel, Only a Breath Apart.

Jesse Lachlin is cursed.

So the town folklore says, but while Jesse’s had his fair share of tragedy, the only curse he believes is in his grandmother’s will: in order to inherit his family farm he must win the approval of his childhood best friend, the girl he froze out his freshman year, Scarlett Copeland.

Scarlett Copeland is psychic.

Glory Gardner tells Scarlett she has hidden psychic abilities, but Scarlett thinks Glory is delusional. What is real is Scarlett’s father’s irrational fears, controlling attitude, and the dark secrets at home. Scarlett may have a way to escape, but there’s a hitch: she’ll have to rely on the one person she used to trust, the same boy who broke her heart, Jesse Lachlin.

Each midnight meeting pushes Jesse and Scarlett to confront their secrets and their feelings for each other. But as love blooms, the curse rears its ugly head…

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: Only a Breath Apart has all the classic KM goodness. It has a sweet and daring romance, lasting and unusual friendships and offers up a real social commentary. I'm going to include a trigger warning because it does feature descriptions of violence but as always KM handles these difficult and hard-hitting issues with care and sensitivity.

It's full of nostalgia and hope. I loved the mystical or magical element, I'll leave it to you to decide whether there really is anything supernatural or if it's all a 'con' (thanks Glory). The ongoing Peter Pan theme worked well because on one level the characters refer to Jesse as Peter Pan and Scarlett as Tink and are at times seemingly aware of the theme, then at other times we see role reversals and characters denying the inevitable. Very clever.

Domestic and familial violence is something I'm always wary of reviewing. Luckily for me, it is to an area I do not have experience with so I am worried about offending or upsetting followers/readers. BUT I found Scarlett's resilience and strength uplifting and a real force for positivity.

In their own words both Jesse and Scarlett have scars and issues. Jesse is trapped by the idea of a family curse and painful past, whilst Scarlett parents cause a lot of problems for her. The portrayal of the Pastor was interesting because I have often seen negative representations of figures of authority in such stories who often ignore abuse or won't listen to the victim, but in this story he listens, guides and helps.

Some of the book is hard to read and I did find myself fighting off tears at times, but I loved the sense of being in it together (once the characters started to trust each other and open up) and the friendships. V made me smile - I appreciated her take no prisoners attitude.

The sentiment of a living, breathing land really helped set the tone of this coming of age story.

Moonlight Scandals - Review

Moonlight Scandals - de Vincents #3
by Jennifer L. Armentrout

What they say: It takes a fearless woman to love the most scandalous man alive in New York Times Bestselling Author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s breathtaking novel

Even a ghost hunter like Rosie Herpin couldn’t have foreseen the fateful meeting between two mourners that has brought her so intimately close to the notorious and seductive Devlin de Vincent. Everyone in New Orleans knows he’s heir to a dark family curse that both frightens and enthralls. To the locals, Devlin is the devil. To Rosie, he’s a man who’s stoking her wildest fantasies. When a brutal attack on her friend is linked to the de Vincents, he becomes a mystery she may be risking her life to solve.

Devlin knows what he wants from this sexy and adventurous woman. But what does Rosie want from him? It’s a question that becomes more pressing—and more dangerous—when he suspects her of prying into the shadows of his past.

Now, the legends surrounding the de Vincents may not be myths at all. But if she’s to discover the truth, she must follow them straight into the arms of the man she can’t resist—the handsome devil himself.

I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: Although JLA's YA/NA books will always have my heart, I'm a huge fan of her naughtier adult romances. I've thoroughly enjoyed the De Vincents series and have been waiting for Devlin to have his say.

Moonlight Scandals picks up after the dramatic events of Moonlight Seduction. The de Vincent brothers are reeling from the unexpected turn and drama caused by a certain socialite and her family.

I loved Rosie. The woman's a ghost hunter, what's not to like?! To say Rosie and Devlin are opposites is a HUGE understatement. They have different beliefs and different goals, but underneath it all they just want those they love to be safe and happy.

Devlin is a hard man to like. Yes he's handsome, rich and brings out the usual romantic hero swoon, but he's also difficult and doesn't give much away. He doesn't trust anybody and is full of secrets and lies. Rosie on the other hand is open, lighthearted and honest. She has faith in people as well as in things you can't always see or understand. I liked them together and in JLA's words, holy hot chemistry batman!

The story is full of twists, reveals and betrayal. Like really full of them! I kept thinking we were heading in one direction, then boom! JLA would flip the plot on it's head and everything changes. Oh the romantic drama!

Am Reading - Slayer

Slayer #1
by Kiersten White

What they say: Into every generation a Slayer is born…

Nina and her twin sister, Artemis, are far from normal. It’s hard to be when you grow up at the Watcher’s Academy, which is a bit different from your average boarding school. Here teens are trained as guides for Slayers—girls gifted with supernatural strength to fight the forces of darkness. But while Nina’s mother is a prominent member of the Watcher’s Council, Nina has never embraced the violent Watcher lifestyle. Instead she follows her instincts to heal, carving out a place for herself as the school medic.

Until the day Nina’s life changes forever.

Thanks to Buffy, the famous (and infamous) Slayer that Nina’s father died protecting, Nina is not only the newest Chosen One—she’s the last Slayer, ever. Period.

As Nina hones her skills with her Watcher-in-training, Leo, there’s plenty to keep her occupied: a monster fighting ring, a demon who eats happiness, a shadowy figure that keeps popping up in Nina’s dreams…

But it’s not until bodies start turning up that Nina’s new powers will truly be tested—because someone she loves might be next.

One thing is clear: Being Chosen is easy. Making choices is hard.

Review - River Wild

River Wild
by Samantha Towle

Buy HERE!!!

What they say: A new town. A new identity. Pregnant and alone.
And far away from a past that can never find me.

River Wild.
Moody. Sullen. Asshole.
And my new neighbor.

I have no interest in befriending River. And he definitely doesn’t want to be befriended by me.

Then, he helps me rescue an abandoned dog. And, that day, I see something in his eyes that reflects back in my own. Sadness. Pain. Loneliness.

I know all of those things well.

An unwanted and unexpected friendship that somehow works. Then, without warning, it turns into something more.

River and I both have our secrets, and that’s okay. Because I understand him. And he understands me.

For the first time in my life, I have something I never thought I would have—happiness.

But happiness isn’t forever. Not for people like me.

Especially not when my past is waiting just around the corner, ready to come and take it all away.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: **Trigger warning** River Wild features violence and abuse.

River Wild is a survival or survivor story. It's about finding a sense of belonging after all hope is lost, but mostly it's about love in its many forms.

The narrative covers some serious and painful topics that are handled with sensitivity and grace. Samantha Towle always creates good male and female leads and I love her hot romances, but what I particularly liked here was the friendship and real camaraderie which develops between Carrie and River.

Carrie has escaped the horrors of her past and is trying to rebuild her life in a new town. She's spent years being downtrodden and abused, but it's not just her life in danger anymore as she's pregnant and had to make a change. I loved how Carrie wasn't a victim, she doesn't feel sorry for herself and is extremely positive. I also appreciated her loyalty and her spirit. It was important to see her stand up to River in his more sullen moments and rediscover herself.

Oh River! Survivor, warrior and sensitive artist. The glimpses of his traumatic past were difficult to read. At times I didn't know whether to cry or throw something, but I loved seeing his vulnerability coming out with Carrie and how caring he was with her.

Even though some of the book is difficult to read, it is always engaging. There are some charming and funny moments and I even found myself Googling fruit baby websites. I dread to think what targeted adverts I'll be getting next!

I have so much love for Buddy and for Carries friends. I would have loved a slightly longer ending (sorry!) It was still a satisfying ending, I'm just greedy and wanted more of their story.

Review - Just for Clicks

Releases 19th Feb 2019

Just For Clicks
by Kara McDowell

What they say: Mommy blogs are great... unless the blog happens to belong to your mom.

Twin sisters Claire & Poppy are accidental social media stars thanks to Mom going viral when they were babies. Now, as teens, they're expected to contribute by building their own brand. Attending a NY fashion week and receiving fan mail is a blast. Fending off internet trolls and would-be kidnappers? Not so much. Poppy embraces it. Claire hates it. Will anybody accept her as "just Claire"? And what should Claire do about Mom's old journals? The handwritten entries definitely don't sound like Mom's perfect blog persona. Worse, one of them divulges a secret that leaves Claire wondering what else in her life might be nothing but a sham...

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: Claire and Poppy live their lives in the spotlight. Imagine a fraternal, non-identical version of the Olsen twins, but set in a time of social media and fashion blogs , then throw in a famous mother and you're heading in the right direction.

Their mum is an online star who has blogged about them their entire lives. All aspects of their lives is open for criticism and unlimited embarrassment. Everything is done to garner more likes, clicks and endorsements. Poppy loves life in the spotlight, Claire not so much!

As Claire becomes less and less interested in building influence it causes rifts within the family. It took me a while to warm to Poppy because I felt she uses her sister and doesn't try to understand her unhappiness, but the change in their relationship is engaging and it was satisfying seeing them begin to act as twins. Oh the teenage angst!

The pacing was a little off at times, because some events seemed to happen at warp speed and others went on for ages, but I enjoyed seeing the story through Claire's eyes and believe the story is relevant and relatable today with all the online influencers out there and the big following particularly with teenagers and younger.

The romance!! Oh Rafael you cutie pie!! I loved the build up and friendship.

There are some big secrets and revelations throughout the course of the story but I would have appreciated a more developed ending. However, I found the story sweet and engaging.
