Eloise Williams the fab author of Gaslight and Seaglass, has recently been named the Children’s Laureate Wales for 2019 – 2021.

Spotlight - Lalani of the Distant Sea

Lalani of the Distant Sea
by Erin Entrada Kelly

What they say: There are stories of extraordinary children who are chosen from birth to complete great quests and conquer evil villains.

This is no such story.

Sometimes, you are an ordinary child.

Sometimes, you have to choose yourself.

This is the story of Lalani Sarita, a twelve-year-old girl who lives on the island of Sanlagita in the shadow of a vengeful mountain. When she makes a fateful wish that endangers her already-vulnerable village, she sets out across the distant sea in search of life's good fortunes. Grown men have died making the same journey. What hope does an ordinary girl have?

Inspired by Filipino folklore, Lalani of the Distant Sea introduces readers to a landscape of magical creatures, such as Bai-Vinca, the enormous birdwoman; Ditasa Ulod, part woman, part eel; the mindoren, a race of creatures modeled after the water buffalo; and the whenbo -- trees that eat the souls of the dead.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: In the latest Stage Dive instalment we meet Mae and Ziggy. Mae is a model and friend of Lena. As a famous model, she attracts both positive and negative attention from fans. She finds herself needing additional security after a stalker starts targeting her. Enter Ziggy! Ziggy works with Sam and is used to protecting famous people.

I loved Mae. I could see how she was friends with Lena because she has the same sassy and snarky sense of humour and hidden vulnerability. Despite her annoyance at needing a bodyguard, Mae finds herself extremely attracted to Ziggy and is torn between respecting his professional distance and wanting him to give in to her.

Ziggy fights his attraction to Mae. Protecting her is a job he takes very seriously. This leads to some funny situations, especially when he has to attend photoshoots with her...

I enjoyed the story and the crossover means we get to see some of our old favs and check in with a certain band! I would have loved more from Mae and Ziggy as well as with the other couples - this is always my issue when reading a novella instalment from a fav series, I'm greedy and always want more!

4 Stars in my Sky!

What they say: Respect the Legend. Idolize the Prodigy. Celebrate the Champion. But never underestimate the Rebel.

With unmatched suspense and her signature cinematic storytelling, #1 New York Times–bestselling author Marie Lu plunges readers back into the unforgettable world of Legend for a truly grand finale.

Eden Wing has been living in his brother’s shadow for years. Even though he’s a top student at his academy in Ross City, Antarctica, and a brilliant inventor, most people know him only as Daniel Wing’s little brother.

A decade ago, Daniel was known as Day, the boy from the streets who led a revolution that saved the Republic of America. But Day is no longer the same young man who was once a national hero. These days he’d rather hide out from the world and leave his past behind. All that matters to him now is keeping Eden safe―even if that also means giving up June, the great love of Daniel’s life.

As the two brothers struggle to accept who they’ve each become since their time in the Republic, a new danger creeps into the distance that’s grown between them. Eden soon finds himself drawn so far into Ross City’s dark side, even his legendary brother can’t save him. At least not on his own...

Whatcha Reading Wednesday - American Royals

American Royals #1
by Katherine McGee

What they say: The New York Times bestselling novel

What if America had a royal family?

When America won the Revolutionary War, its people offered General George Washington a crown. Two and a half centuries later, the House of Washington still sits on the throne.

As Princess Beatrice gets closer to becoming America's first queen regnant, the duty she has embraced her entire life suddenly feels stifling. Nobody cares about the spare except when she's breaking the rules, so Princess Samantha doesn't care much about anything, either . . . except the one boy who is distinctly off-limits to her. And then there's Samantha's twin, Prince Jefferson. If he'd been born a generation earlier, he would have stood first in line for the throne, but the new laws of succession make him third. Most of America adores their devastatingly handsome prince . . . but two very different girls are vying to capture his heart.

The power. The drama. The intrigue. The Crown. New York Times bestselling author Katharine McGee imagines an alternate version of the modern world, one where the glittering age of monarchies has not yet faded--and where love is still powerful enough to change the course of history.

Spotlight - The Golden Tower

I love this cute series!

The Golden Tower - Magisterium #5

What they say: Callum Hunt has been a hero and an outcast, a force of good and a portent of evil. While the doors of the Magisterium have been open to him, he has never felt entirely welcome. If anything, he has felt others' resentment, and fear. Now, as he begins his final year at the magical school, his place is less certain than ever. With one unique exception, he is estranged from most of his friends. A furtive darkness still hounds him. And the greatest challenge he will ever face is right around the corner. In this monumental conclusion to the Magisterium series, bestselling authors Holly Black and Cassandra Clare push Callum to the brink of annihilation, showing how magic has the ability to both save and doom, create and destroy.

Cover Love - Sea Witch Rising

Sea Witch Rising - Sea Witch #2
by Sarah Henning

How pretty is this cover?!

What they say: “The Little Mermaid” takes a twisted turn in this thrilling sequel to villainess origin story Sea Witch, as the forces of land and sea clash in an epic battle for freedom, redemption, and true love.

Runa will not let her twin sister die. Alia traded her voice to the Sea Witch for a shot at happiness with a prince who doesn’t love her. And his rejection will literally kill her—unless Runa intervenes.

Under the sea, Evie craves her own freedom—but liberation from her role as Sea Witch will require an exchange she may not be willing to make. With their hearts’ desires at odds, what will Runa and Evie be willing to sacrifice to save their worlds?

Told from alternating perspectives, this epic fairy tale retelling is a romantic and heart-wrenching story about the complications of sisterhood, the uncompromising nature of magic, and the cost of redemption.

New Release and Review - Finding Storm

Finding Storm
by Samantha Towle

Out now!!!

Spin off time baby!!

What they say: The son of an icon.

He was a legend. Rock royalty.

A man I never met.

But I’m measured against him in every aspect of my life.

The only time I feel like me … the real me … is when I’m onstage with my band. But the more we grow in popularity, the more people compare me to him.

I’m not him. And I never will be. If only everyone could figure that out for themselves.

I need a break from it all.

Then, a confrontation has me jumping in my car, putting LA in my rearview mirror. And a stupid mistake ends up with my car on the side of the road. And straight into the path of a girl who is the exact opposite of everyone else in my life.

She’s like everything I used to know.

And she has no clue who I am.

Even if she did, I don’t think she’d care.

She thinks I’m cavalier.

I think she’s intriguing. And hot. Let’s not forget hot.

I’m stuck in this town overnight while my car is being fixed. But I’m thinking I’m gonna stick around a bit longer.

I’m Storm Slater, lead guitarist in Slater Raze and the only child of the late, great Jonny Creed. But, here, right now … I’m nobody. Just a regular guy.

I’m liking it a whole lot.

And I’m liking her even more.

Buy it here!!

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: I'm a huge, squeezing fangirl when it comes to anything remotely The Mighty Storm (TMS) related and I do love a spin off/second generation story, so it's a win-win with Finding Storm!

Being the spawn of a rock legend is a heavy burden to carry, add in the fact that he's an awesome musician in his own right but is constantly compared to his deceased father and the fact that key events from his past have been hidden from him for years, it's safe to say Storm is not in a good place when the story starts.

Stevie has suffered more than her fear share of misery but she's an extremely positive character, who is kind, generous and unique. As you can prob tell, I loved her! I appreciated the fact that she never tried to be anything other than her kooky self and is happy in her own skin. I wish I could be more like her!

As with all the TMS related books, music is almost like another character. With Storm, music is his life in both positive and negative ways, but really it's his release. For Stevie music is really important, just in a different way, but it is still a positive release for her. My musical tastes are definitely more aligned with Storm's than Stevie's, but I'll never be able to hear a Madonna song without thinking of this story. I also loved the family musician names - I'm from a family with a Stevie and Lynsey (yes a different spelling) so I smiled at the references.

I seem to have said a lot about Finding Storm without really going into the plot. This is because I don't want to spoil any of their story for you. I will say (not a spoiler) that it was fab to catch up with old favs!!! I'm hoping there will be lots more books in the series. I'd love to see the rest of Slater Raze get their own stories, as well as JJ, Billy, Belle etc at some point too. More please Sam!!!

4.5 Stars in my Sky!

FINDING STORM will only available on Kindle priced at $2.99 as a special release price; this is only for a few days, then the price will rise to $3.99. It's the only time it will be on sale. Also, it'll be free on Kindle Unlimited.
