Hard to Love Review

Hard to Love by Kendall Ryan

What they say: Cade’s always taken risks…

Cade takes cares of his sick younger sister by doing what he does best--cage fighting and starring in adult movies, his newest harebrained moneymaking scheme designed to pay for his sister’s growing medical bills. But when his latest gig finds him admitted to the ER sporting an erection from hell, thanks to the little pill given to him by the director, he can’t get the pretty little nurse who treated him out of his head, even though he knows she’s so far out of his league it should be illegal.

Alexa’s always played it safe…

Tired of being pigeonholed as the sweet, innocent one, hardworking nursing student Alexa has been looking for ways to break out of her Goody Two-shoes image. When her friend suggests the outlandish idea of losing her virginity to the sexy and sure-to-be-skilled porn star, Alexa is mortified. But then when Cade refuses her proposition, she finds herself pissed off and embarrassed. When she tracks him down to give him a piece of her mind, she isn’t prepared for what she finds. Watching him care for his little sister tugs at her heart, and suddenly it’s no longer just about losing her virginity, but about helping Cade. Because Lord help her, she might actually be falling for a porn star...

What I say: I saw the blurb and was expecting another smutty book where the experienced guy deflowers the innocent female lead, thankfully Hard to Love was SO much more!!

Alexa is the nearly-graduated nursing student on duty when porn star Cade comes into the ER with an interesting problem. Kendall Ryan does a great job combining the sexy and smutty with great banter and humour. I was crying with laughter from the opening pages, whilst swooning over Cade's inner thoughts.

Alexa and her friends instantly label Cade as a bit of fun, who can educate her in seduction. They don't consider what Cade is really like and why he's doing that particular job. When I found out why Cade was doing porn I wanted to hug him (although at certain points I also wanted to slap him). Cade is a very different type of bad boy who is intrigued and bemused when Alexa inserts herself into his life.

Alexa is awkward, bumbling and unintentionally funny. Where Cade struggles to make money, she has rich parents and never has to worry about it. The good thing about her though, is she chooses to work and is really caring. Alexa's not spoilt and I loved her relationship with Cade's little sister Lily.

The standout parts for me were how funny the book was, and of course Cade's devotion to Lily (where do I sign up for a big brother?). The lesson I learnt here was never judge a book by it's cover (although it's super hot) or by it's blurb. Cade and Alexa's story is fun, hot and charming!

4 Stars in my Sky!

My fav non-spoilery quotes:

  • God, how had I been stupid enough to think that having a porn star for a boyfriend was a good idea?
  • "You may not have been who I picture myself with, but you're exactly what I need- someone I can let loose and be myself with."
  • "I’m sick of everyone thinking I’m Miss Goody Two-shoes, with my perfect grades, and days of the week panties. You know what? I have my Wednesdays on today—it’s Saturday—and that’s a pretty sad way of rebelling, huh?"
  • He was undeniably attractive, and that was even before I saw the python he was packing in his pants.
