Whatcha Reading Wednesday - A Light in the Flame

I've been waiting ages for this release!

A Light in the Flame
by Jennifer L. Armentrout

What they say: The truth about Sera’s plan is out, shattering the fragile trust forged between her and Nyktos. Surrounded by those distrustful of her, all Sera has is her duty. She will do anything to end Kolis, the false King of Gods, and his tyrannical rule of Iliseeum, thus stopping the threat he poses to the mortal realm.

Nyktos has a plan, though, and as they work together, the last thing they need is the undeniable, scorching passion that continues to ignite between them. Sera cannot afford to fall for the tortured Primal, not when a life no longer bound to a destiny she never wanted is more attainable than ever.

And as Sera begins to realize that she wants to be more than a Consort in name only, the danger surrounding them intensifies. The attacks on the Shadowlands are increasing, and when Kolis summons them to Court, a whole new risk becomes apparent. The Primal power of Life is growing inside her, pushing her closer to the end of her Culling. And without Nyktos’s love—an emotion he’s incapable of feeling—she won’t survive her Ascension. That is if she even makes it to her Ascension and Kolis doesn’t get to her first. Because time is running out. For both her and the realms.

Spotlight - The Ravens

The Ravens
by Danielle Paige & Kass Morgan

What they say: Kappa Rho Nu isn’t your average sorority. Their parties are notorious. Their fundraisers are known for being Westerly College’s most elaborate affairs. But beneath the veil of Greek life and prestige, the sisters of Kappu Rho Nu share a secret: they’re a coven of witches.

For Scarlett Winters, a bonafide Raven and daughter of a legacy Raven, pledge this year means living up to her mother’s impossible expectations of becoming Kappa Rho Nu’s next president. Scarlett knows she’d be the perfect candidate—that is, if she didn’t have one human-sized skeleton in her closet….

When Vivi and Scarlett are paired as big and little for initiation, they find themselves sinking into the sinister world of blood oaths and betrayals.

Am Reading - The Return

Another reread of a JLA fav!

Yes I know there's a newer cover...

The Return - Titan #1
by Jennifer L. Armentrout

What they say: It's been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they've given him have been violent and bloody--which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He's got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet.

Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy's deal might be, but it's a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her.

But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.

Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.

New Release and Review - Finding Storm

Finding Storm
by Samantha Towle

Out now!!!

Spin off time baby!!

What they say: The son of an icon.

He was a legend. Rock royalty.

A man I never met.

But I’m measured against him in every aspect of my life.

The only time I feel like me … the real me … is when I’m onstage with my band. But the more we grow in popularity, the more people compare me to him.

I’m not him. And I never will be. If only everyone could figure that out for themselves.

I need a break from it all.

Then, a confrontation has me jumping in my car, putting LA in my rearview mirror. And a stupid mistake ends up with my car on the side of the road. And straight into the path of a girl who is the exact opposite of everyone else in my life.

She’s like everything I used to know.

And she has no clue who I am.

Even if she did, I don’t think she’d care.

She thinks I’m cavalier.

I think she’s intriguing. And hot. Let’s not forget hot.

I’m stuck in this town overnight while my car is being fixed. But I’m thinking I’m gonna stick around a bit longer.

I’m Storm Slater, lead guitarist in Slater Raze and the only child of the late, great Jonny Creed. But, here, right now … I’m nobody. Just a regular guy.

I’m liking it a whole lot.

And I’m liking her even more.

What I say: I'm a huge, squeezing fangirl when it comes to anything remotely The Mighty Storm (TMS) related and I do love a spin off/second generation story, so it's a win-win with Finding Storm!

Being the spawn of a rock legend is a heavy burden to carry, add in the fact that he's an awesome musician in his own right but is constantly compared to his deceased father and the fact that key events from his past have been hidden from him for years, it's safe to say Storm is not in a good place when the story starts.

Stevie has suffered more than her fear share of misery but she's an extremely positive character, who is kind, generous and unique. As you can prob tell, I loved her! I appreciated the fact that she never tried to be anything other than her kooky self and is happy in her own skin. I wish I could be more like her!

As with all the TMS related books, music is almost like another character. With Storm, music is his life in both positive and negative ways, but really it's his release. For Stevie music is really important, just in a different way, but it is still a positive release for her. My musical tastes are definitely more aligned with Storm's than Stevie's, but I'll never be able to hear a Madonna song without thinking of this story. I also loved the family musician names - I'm from a family with a Stevie and Lynsey (yes a different spelling) so I smiled at the references.

I seem to have said a lot about Finding Storm without really going into the plot. This is because I don't want to spoil any of their story for you. I will say (not a spoiler) that it was fab to catch up with old favs!!! I'm hoping there will be lots more books in the series. I'd love to see the rest of Slater Raze get their own stories, as well as JJ, Billy, Belle etc at some point too. More please Sam!!!

4.5 Stars in my Sky!

FINDING STORM will only available on Kindle priced at $2.99 as a special release price; this is only for a few days, then the price will rise to $3.99. It's the only time it will be on sale. Also, it'll be free on Kindle Unlimited.

“Let me,” he says, voice low, his hand running up my thigh.
“You hate me,” I whisper, knees trembling.
He smiles against my throat. “I don’t need to love you for this, Riley. Let me.”

Love and hate are merely two sides of the same coin. And I hate Riley Larson.
She's responsible for my little brother's death. She played us both, all those years ago. And she drove him to the edge.
I've spent all this time avoiding her, loathing her, wishing to get her back for what she did.

And now, she's back in my city.
And finally, I can get vengeance for my brother.

She did always like to be scared.

No cliffhanger, can be read as a stand-alone. Dark romance, only suitable for those 18+.

Review - Summer Heat

Summer Heat - Cruel Summer #1
by Rachel Van Dyken

What they say: Spoiled Princess is what he used to call me.

We were an inferno of hate and passion wound up with a dash of chaos.

For four years I watched him mow my lawn.
For four years I watched my friends make fun of him.
For four years I hated myself for wanting him, but even more for the way I treated him.

And then I had him.
For one night, we put all labels away and I spent the best night of my life in his arms.
Then the next day, with my secret night under lock and key, I looked the other way while my friends shamed him.

But now the jokes on me, because the scrawny lawn boy who I secretly loved from afar is now the director of Hollywoods most exclusive summer camp.

And I'm on his staff.
Now it's his turn to punish me.
His turn to make me pay.
His turn to take his revenge after years of humiliation.

He's no longer a boy you can ridicule.
But a college graduate who can have any woman he wants.
I want him to look at me the way he did that one night we had together, but right now
the look in his eyes tells me he's going to enjoy having me under him for two straight months.
I don't know where his hatred ends, his passion begins.
All I know is he wants revenge.
And I'm his lucky target.

What I say: Summer Heat is the first in a new three parter from RVD. I enjoyed the angst and drama and all the Fame meets Dirty Dancing vibes!

Stuck-up or spoiled princess, Ray finds herself at the mercy of her former rival and the guy she belittled for years. Except she's not either of those things and is no longer the same girl who treated Marlon so badly at high school.

Marlon has really come into his own in both looks and talent. There's no way he'll let the rich girl who tormented him and stole his scholarship when she didn't even need it, ruin his summer. It's payback time!

The flirty banter and general snipping made me smile but I'm not sure how Ray didn't recognise Marlon straight away - I can only imagine he looked hella different! This is not something I usually say as I often get annoyed when writers include too much back story or flashbacks but I would have liked a little more info on their childhood and what happened at school - perhaps in the next instalment...

Oh the cliffy! I read this one a while ago and am still stewing over the ending and the wait to see what happens next!

4 Stars in my Sky!

They say revenge is a dish best served cold.
I’d had four years to stew on what Daria Followhill did to me, and now my heart was completely iced. I took her first kiss. She took the only thing I loved. I was poor. She was rich. The good thing about circumstances? They can change. Fast. Now, I’m her parents’ latest shiny project. Her housemate. Her tormentor. The captain of the rival football team she hates so much. Yeah, baby girl, say it—I’m your foster brother.
There’s a price to pay for ruining the only good thing in my life, and she’s about to shell out some serious tears. Daria Followhill thinks she is THE queen. I’m about to prove to her that she’s nothing but a spoiled princess.

Everyone loves a good old unapologetic punk. But being a b? Oh, you get slammed for every snarky comment, cynical eye roll, and foot you put in your adversaries’ way. The thing about stiletto heels is that they make a hell of a dent when you walk all over the people who try to hurt you. In Penn Scully’s case, I pierced his heart until he bled out, then left it in a trash can on a bright summer day. Four years ago, he asked me to save all my firsts for him. Now he lives across the hall, and I want nothing more than to be his last everything.

His parting words when he gave me his heart were that nothing in this world is free.
Now? Now he is making me pay.

For close to a decade, twenty-five-year-old Felicity Lonsdale has masqueraded as a dowager almost twice her age—selling caterpillars to butterfly consortiums—enabling her to hide an ill-fated past while raising her late brother’s daughters. Together, the three live on an isolated Irish estate bequeathed by a dying earl. When the earl’s estranged son arrives to claim his inheritance by threatening to expose Felicity’s true identity, she longs to pack up her nieces and run. But a ghostly secret within

the castle’s turret holds her captive.

Nick Thornton—a Roma viscount’s heir—is also captive. After a tryst with an
investor’s wife nearly destroyed his family’s holiday resort, Nick forsook
everything to elope with her. However, a tragic mistake at his hand led to her
and his baby’s deaths. Refusing to turn to the family he shamed, Nick travels
to seek the countess who once co-wrote a romance with his sister. There’s rumor
of a special butterfly in her keep—a transparent-winged species with ties to
the afterlife. Nick hopes to contact his dead wife and child, for only their
forgiveness can free him.

Upon his arrival to Felicity’s estate, Nick offers to help her defeat the
earl’s son, on the condition she allow Nick to investigate her glass
butterflies. Felicity agrees, though fears the closer he gets to the ghosts of
his past, the closer he’ll come to uncovering her own. As Nick spends time with
Felicity and her nieces, he realizes the mystery enshrouding this fragile
countess and her castle is more intriguing than the ghosts he originally came
to find. And perhaps putting his dead to rest and helping her do the same will
be his true path to redemption.

A lady imprisoned by deafness, an architect

imprisoned by his past, and a ghost imprisoned within the petals of a flower -
intertwine in this love story that transcends life and death.

For most of her life, nineteen-year-old Juliet Emerline has
subsisted – isolated by deafness – making hats in the

Thornton, a twenty-seven-year-old mysterious and eccentric architect with
designs on her humble estate. When she secretly witnesses him raging beside a

English nobleman appears in ghostly form, singing a song only her deaf ears can
hear. The ghost remembers nothing of his identity or death, other than the one
name that haunts his afterlife: Thornton.

To avenge her ghostly companion and save her estate, Juliet pushes aside her
fear of society and travels to Lord Thornton’s secluded holiday resort, posing
as a hat maker in one of his boutiques. There, she finds herself questioning

specter who serenades her with beautiful songs and ardent words, touching her
mind and soul like no other man ever can. As sinister truths behind Lord
Thornton’s interest in her estate and his tie to Hawk come to light, Juliet is

hopes her darker and funkier tribute to Carroll will inspire readers to seek
out the stories that won her heart as a child.

When she's not writing, A.G.'s pastimes are reading, rollerblading, gardening,
