Thoughtful - Thoughtless 1.5 (It's Kellan's turn)
by S.C. Stephens

Add to goodreads

What they say: In Thoughtless, Kiera told her story. Now it's time for Kellan Kyle to share his side in Thoughtful . . .
The only place Kellan has ever felt at home is on stage. Gripping his guitar in a darkened bar, he can forget his painful past. These days his life revolves around his music and his band mates, and that's the way he likes it. And then one woman changes everything . . .
Kiera is the kind of girl Kellan has no business wanting - she's smart, sweet, and dating his best friend. Certain he could never be worthy of her love, he hides his growing attraction . . . until Kiera's own tormented heart hints that his feelings might not be one-sided. Now, no matter the consequences, Kellan is sure of one thing: he won't let Kiera go without a fight.

I received a copy from the publisher (via NetGalley) in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: *Note* I took a different approach when it came to S.C. Stephens's Thoughtless series because I read Kellan's POV in Thoughtful first! I've had the entire series on my kindle and TBR for ages (literally it's the longest I've ever had a series on there) but had been putting off reading it because I'd seen SO MUCH HATE for Keira. I wanted to read about their story but wasn't sure I could handle her, so when I heard about Thoughtful being from Kellan's POV I jumped at the chance. This was both good and bad because I'm officially now a proud KK groupie but I did kinda feel the hate for Keira for a lot of the book. Where it was great to see how Kellan was feeling at certain times, it didn't allow me to gain much kinship or sympathy for Keira purely because Kellan doesn't know what she's thinking. I have since read the entire series and have softened towards Keira and LOVE THEM together, but I personally believe I made it more difficult to like her by reading Kellan's beautiful story first. But I'm sure most of you would have read the series before starting Thoughtful so you're already at an advantage - I really recommend you start with Thoughtless!

Back to Thoughtful - I freaking loved every emotional pain-fest moment of it! One thing I noticed when reading the other books after later on, was how much Kellan suffers and how he genuinely loves Keira. He loves her even when he doesn't want to and when she REALLY doesn't deserve it. Kellan is far sweeter than I would have ever imagined from a hot, young rocker (judgemental? me?!) - I ugly cried my way through his story.

Keira is responsible for a lot of pain and confusion which comes across clearly in Thoughtful. The reader gets to see Kellan at breaking point again and again. I really wasn't expecting the level of loneliness and self hatred he displays. I found some of it not only heartbreaking but kinda hard to read - BUT I loved it!! (not sure what this says about me?!)!

Although the angst levels are HIGH and most of the book is an epic sob-fest, it was awesome to see Kellan fall in love and to see him work through his issues. I really cannot believe he tolerated everything he did. It upset me that he was willing to have a bit of Keira because he felt he didn't deserve more. But I also loved when he read the riot act to Keira and even Denny. I also loved the other D-Bags and am very hopeful for their stories in the future.

Getting Kellan's POV means that nothing is hidden from the reader. If you're anything like me then you'll find yourself living the anger, pain, confusion and love along with him. As a result of this, there were certain times when I wanted to throat punch Keira or at least ask her WHAT THE FRACK was she doing? But there were others when I started to feel slightly sorry for her too. Whenever Kellan would react I wanted to shake some sense into him. I did spend a large section of the book thinking that a relationship this complicated and kinda toxic could never work, but you only have to look at his utter devotion and self-sacrifice to realise they just needed a chance to be happy.

There's a lot of new stuff in Thoughtful (having now read the rest of the series now I can say this) because the plot has been built on and expanded - we get lots more KK!

I laughed, cried, shouted, F-bombed, cried a lot more, swooned and then came away feeling really positive and happy. Kellan Kyle you are the new king of my BBF list! Thoughtful is the ultimate coming of age story!
4.5 Stars in my Sky!
