What If
by Rebecca Donovan
A new novel by the USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of The Breathing Series...
What if you had a second chance to meet someone for the first time? Cal Logan is shocked to see Nicole Bentley sitting across from him at a coffee shop thousands of miles from their hometown. After all, no one has seen or heard from her since they graduated over a year ago.
Except this girl isn't Nicole.
She looks exactly like Cal's shy childhood crush, but her name is Nyelle Preston and she has no idea who he is. This girl is impulsive and daring, her passion for life infectious. The complete opposite of Nicole. Cal finds himself utterly fascinated-and falling hard. But Nyelle is also extremely secretive. And the closer he comes to finding out what she's hiding, the less he wants to know.
When the secrets from the past and present collide, one thing becomes clear: Nothing is what it seems.

I received a copy of What If from the publisher (via NetGalley) in exchange for an honest review!
What I say (review): What If...? What would you do? What should they do?
I LOVED the concept behind What If but I really can't say too much about it without giving anything away and I have zero intentions of spoiling anything for you! However you can get several hints from the blurb...
The story crosses several time frames and focuses on several different characters. I loved Cal, he was definitely my favourite character. He was a really great guy. It was interesting to read the different POV flashbacks and to catch up them now! I enjoyed Rae's moody standoffishness and Richelle's enthusiasm. Nyelle is an interesting character and I'm pretty sure I haven't seen a character similar to her before.
I had my theories concerning the BIG SECRET. I came close with some but was way off with a couple of my really out there ideas. Again, I don't want to spoil anything, but be prepared for tears and smiles along the way.
What If really made me think about certain aspects of my own life and to question some decisions. The hopeful message and the overall concept really stuck something in me and I kept questioning what I would do when faced with similar circumstances. The honest answer is that I don't know.
There were a few times when it was difficult to understand Nyelle's actions and I wanted her to consider what she was doing. The flashbacks were interesting because we got see more about the friendships and secrets. I couldn't believe how oblivious Cal was at times and it made me smile.
What If is clever, poignant and heartbreaking, so have the tissues ready. Don't worry it's not all sad because Donovan has included lots of sweet and funny moments and I enjoyed Nyelle's kooky side and the many random things she'd get Cal to do. Frosting, anybody?
4 Stars in my sky!
