Q&A with Jessica Gibson

Today I'm hosting the multitalented and multi-genre writing author Jessica Gibson.

I got to ask Jessica about her current projects, plans for the future and to be generally kinda nosy.

Hi Jessica, Welcome to Zili in the Sky.
Thank you so much for having me!!

How would you describe The Harder I Fall in one sentence?
That’s a hard one lol. Finding your strength in letting go of the past.

How do you pick your character names? I love personally love the name’s Levi and Dillon.
Usually I pick names that I like. But for this one with Levi and his family I sort of went with biblical names. Becca’s name picked itself lol, I started writing and she came out.

Which of your characters (from any of your books) was the hardest for you to write and why?
Hmmmm, I think Becca was a hard character just because of everything she went through. She was also easy to write in some respects because she had such a clear voice.

I’m sure you get asked this a lot, but everybody always wants to know, do you have a favorite character?
Haha, I think it changes with each book I write. I loved writing Becca because she was so damaged and fragile. Right now I’m writing Chad’s book and I’m loving him.

What pushed you to write Becca’s story in The Harder I Fall
I always say that my characters have a mind of their own, and I fully know how insane that makes me sound too. I had a whole different character for Becca, but as I started writing it all changed.

What’s the hardest part of writing a sequel like The Deeper We Get
I think the hardest part is that it’s not really a sequel. The books are totally stand alones. The Harder I Fall was fully Becca’s story. In The Deeper We Get, you will see Chad four years after Becca’s story took place. It’s nerve wracking to write something in the same universe because I don't want people to expect Becca and Levi to be a huge part of it when this one is all about Chad and Scarlet.

How would you describe Levi in three words?
Loving, strong, and sexy.

If you meet Becca in real life what would you say to her?
I just want to hug her and tell her that she’s amazing!

Your books cover a few different genres, what’s most enjoyable for you to write and why?
Well, I started with Paranormal and that was a ton of fun because I could create anything I wanted to. But my heart is really in Contemporary Romance right  now. I love how real it is.

What is your favourite aspect of writing?
Seeing the story unfold is always fun.

What’s next for you in terms of your writing?
I have a few things in the works, a serial novella series, and I also want to try my hand at romantic suspense in the next year. I’m also going to return to Paranormal a bit in 2015.

Huge thanks for answering my questions and for hanging out at Zili in the Sky!
Thank you so much for having me!!

Author Spotlight:

First and foremost, I'm a wife to an amazing man, and mother to a 2 year old little boy. I love to read when I can find the time, my Kindle is my best friend. I've read tons and tons of books. One of my favorite authors is Diana Gabaldon, her Outlander series is absolutely amazing. I also really enjoy Charlaine Harris' True Blood series. I'll read anything supernatural, I've blown through most of the good YA series' that are out there. I think my love of reading really helped me branch out into writing.
