Origin by JLA Review

I read Origin when it was released last summer, but I somehow managed to miss out reviewing it (I have no idea how I did this)...

Origin - Lux #4
by Jennifer L. Armentrout

What they say: Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?

What I say: I absolutely loved the previous 3 novels, novella and the adult spin-off, Obsession, and Origin is no exception. Put simply, it rocks!!

After the shocking ending in Opal I wasn't really sure where Armentrout was going to take Origin, but I would never have guessed the direction she took it in. The first noteworthy thing is the dual POV's; this time ladies and gents we get to see inside the scary mind of Daemon Black and he's ANGRY! The second is the huge amount of content, a LOT happens in Origin. Armentrout is a very clever in her writing because she got the pace spot on and the plot never seemed overwhelming or too cluttered.

Daemon is a powerful force and goes all out to get Katy back - I'm not going to spoil anything by telling you what he does, but be prepared for a lot of surprises. For anybody who was ever in doubt before now about Daemon's power and strength, then I'm pretty sure they won't be after reading this one - the dude is bad ass!! As much as I love his power, snark and sexy swagger, the main reason Daemon has consistently topped my BBF list is because of how sweet and protective he is of his Kitten (Katy).

The Katy we see is a very different young woman to the one we met when the Lux series began, and she goes on a huge transformation within Origin. Katy is in a terrible situation where she's faced with some hard choices. She's dealing with her inner battle to remain true to herself and not to give in to the darker aspects of her new life. This being said, she's totally down with standing up to the baddies (who are they again? After reading Obsession and then Origin, I'm not sure I know anymore).

Even now months after I initially read Origin I'm still shocked by THAT ending! JLA is definitely setting the scene for one hell of a finale! I loved all the twists, turns, deaths, romance, betrayals and Luxen goodness. Oh and of course I loved Daemon Black!

4.5 Stars in my Sky!

My fav non-spoilery quotes:
  • "I want a years-worth of seconds and minutes with you. I want a decade's worth of hours, so many that I can't add them up."
  • "As close as you’re riding me, man, I feel like I need to take you out to dinner or something. At least, I should get your name."
  • "Oh shit. ET just phoned home."
  • "You know, there’s this thing called pants. You should try it out." He cast me a cheeky grin as he turned. "You’d be devastated. Just think, you get to see this every day from here on out." My heart did a trippy dance. "Your naked ass? Gee. Sign me up for that."
