What they say: After being kidnapped, hogtied, and stuffed in the trunk of a car, seventeen-year-old Abigail Nichols' boy problems seem unimportant.

She couldn't be more wrong.

The boy who saves her holds her heart.
But Derick Crawford also holds secrets.

Magical beings who guide human emotions are fighting an invisible war dating back to the dawn of time, and Abigail's one of them. The more she learns of her heritage, the less she wants to know. Armed with a very old, very massive book to teach them about their history, Abigail and Derick run away to a place where they think they can be safe and happy, only to have their troubles secretly hitch a ride.

Her history book is in a sharing mood, and it tells her to keep a secret of her own.

But has she put her trust in the wrong place?
And will the world survive if she has.

I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: I enjoyed the concept of Shattered Secrets and Krystal Wade has done a good job incorporating the usual teen drama with the mysterious. The story follows Abby (who by the way has the worst luck) as she tries to find out why her best friend (and crush) Derick is ignoring her and to understand the strange events which seem to be following her.

Abby is sweet, strong and tenacious (she can also be a pain the butt). Her confusion as the weird events began to unfold came across well. Generally she seemed to take it all in her stride. I did find her a little immature at times, but I can understand her reactions and I felt bad for her when yet another lie was uncovered! I really wanted to see her stand up for herself a but more.

I'm in two minds about the guys because although Derick obviously cares, he can be dismissive one moment then extremely intense the next. I actually ended up liking Mark more than I should have, but would have liked to see him developed a bit more (perhaps in the next instalment)!

A good introduction to the series, with some interesting themes and ideas. I would have liked to see more character development as they sometimes seemed to lack a little depth (not all the time though) - Shattered Secrets was a fun start to Abby's story.

3 - 3.5 Stars in my Sky!
