The Eternity Cure by Julie Kagawa Review

Blood of Eden Book 2

What they say: Allison Sekemoto has vowed to rescue her creator, Kanin, who is being held hostage and tortured by the psychotic vampire Sarren. The call of blood leads her back to the beginning—New Covington and the Fringe, and a vampire prince who wants her dead yet may become her wary ally.

Even as Allie faces shocking revelations and heartbreak like she’s never known, a new strain of the Red Lung virus that decimated humanity is rising to threaten human and vampire alike.

What I say: I really enjoyed book 1, and even though Julie does like to put her readers through the ringer I couldn't wait to read The Eternity Cure! I even had it as my Waiting on Wednesday post a while ago and am so glad I finally got to read it.

The Eternity Cure starts several months after the end of The Immortal Rules. Allie is in the midst of her mission to find her sire Kanin (he's being held by the insane vampire Sarren). Having left Zeke and the other humans safe in Eden, Allie uses her blood bond to track Kanin. Although she ends up crossing paths with her 'blood brother' Jackal.

I really liked the squabbling and barbs between Allie and Jackal. Jackal's sneaky, immoral and a monster, but he has some great lines and Julie Kagawa knows how to write banter! Allie is a really strong heroine, she's a bad ass vampire who works hard to keep her humanity.

In her mission to save Kanin, Allie ends up back in New Covington where she bumbs into past acquaintances; both friend and foe. Hello Mr Crosse! I was desperate for Zeke to reappear and was literally jumping for joy when he did! It's difficult to say too much more about Zeke as believe me it's all a huge spoiler, but be prepared to whoop, scream, swoon and cry! Zeke is still our beloved 'preacher boy' but is even more bad ass. From the very beginning I've wanted there to be a way for Zeke to be with his 'vampire girl' but Julie doesn't make it easy on us readers!

There's some interesting twists along the way and I'm still traumatised by the ending. It also occurred to me that there's a long wait until book 3 is released! There is so much more to say about The Eternity Cure, but it's very spoilery so I may update my review at a later date when more people have read it. For now I'll just say that I loved it and Julie Kagawa you are an evil genius!!

4 Stars in my Sky!

My fav non-spoilery quotes:
  • "Wasn't difficult. Pretty girl walking into a place like this wither has death wish or is already dead."
  • If he shoved a stake through my heart, I doubt it would've hurt more than what I felt right then.
  • "But right now, all I want to do is kiss you, except I'm terrified that if I try you might throw me off this balcony."
  • "Or, maybe I should say, I'm not letting you go. Vampires are possessive like that."
