Tom Carter loves women. Okay, love might be pushing it … Tom enjoys screwing lots of women. When tragedy befalls his best friend, Tom finds himself making a promise to the big man upstairs – he’ll change his ways, if he saves the woman his best friend loves. Tom’s prayer is answered. Now he has to change. Which means no sleeping around.
After Vintage’s manager breaks her leg skiing, Tom steps in as tour manager, and Lyla finds herself on tour with the man whore of rock. Put one perpetually horny Tom and one sex resistant Lyla together, equals a recipe for disaster. Or so you’d think…
But an unexpected friendship is formed. A closeness neither of them expected. Putting one chastity belt and one lamp that is in desperate need of rubbing, to the test. Will the sex storm that is Tom Carter, finally find himself tamed by the rock chick with a hardened heart, or will he go back to his womanizing ways…?
Most of the story is told from Lyla's POV with a few chapters in Tom's. Lyla is fab! She has one hell of a back story. Every time Towle would reveal a new snippet from Lyla's past I found myself getting more and more sucked into her world. I couldn't believe the things she's been through. Towle manages to create a great balance between strength and vulnerability. I also loved the whole Mut label she creates for Tom. There are some HOT scenes which will probably make you blush and swoon - I'm not sure whether even Tom could surpass Jake in my eyes (Jake's my fav BBF)!?
If you've read TMS and WTS you'll remember Tom 'cat' as the man-whore of the band (Jake's obviously reformed by this point), but other than taking care of Jake at the hospital (no spoilers in case you haven't read WTS) and being popular with the ladies, we don't really know much about him. I LOVED getting to learn about his past and I definitely did not see certain things coming!
Before reading TTS I wasn't entirely sure how Towle was going to convince readers that Tom can stop his er, 'friendly' ways, because you don't generally see a character pull a complete 180 and find it convincing. Turns out we didn't really know all that much about Tom at all!
My favourite aspect was the banter! In a sick kinda way I really enjoyed seeing Lyla and Tom argue because, for the most part, they were really funny. That being said some of Tom's antics really ticked me off and I wanted to swing for him. He always managed to win me over though and I found his confidence endearing. I also wanted to shake some sense into Lyla towards the end. She's far more forgiving than I would have been and I couldn't believe what Dex did to her.
It was nice to see some old friends and to hear more about Jake and Tru. The conclusion to the Storm series was really bittersweet. It's my fav rocker series and I'm sad to see it end, but I'm really happy with how it finished. It was great getting to meet the other members of Vintage - I REALLY hope we get a spin-off series featuring the Vintage boys, because at the very least, I think Cale deserves his own story (I kept thinking he may have had a thing about a certain blonde). Vintage, Vintage, Vintage!!!
