What they say: The Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster phenomenon continues in the first heart-pounding new adult romance in The Maddox Brothers series.
Fiercely independent Camille "Cami" Camlin gladly moved on from her childhood before it was over. She has held down a job since before she could drive, and moved into her own apartment after her freshman year of college. Now tending bar at The Red Door, Cami doesn’t have time for much else besides work and classes, until a trip to see her boyfriend is cancelled, leaving her with a first weekend off in almost a year.
Trenton Maddox was the king of Eastern State University, dating co-eds before he even graduated high school. His friends wanted to be him, and women wanted to tame him, but after a tragic accident turned his world upside down, Trenton leaves campus to come to grips with the crushing guilt.
Eighteen months later, Trenton is living at home with his widower father, and works full-time at a local tattoo parlor to help with the bills. Just when he thinks his life is returning to normal, he notices Cami sitting alone at a table at The Red.
As the baby sister of four rowdy brothers, Cami believes she’ll have no problem keeping her new friendship with Trenton Maddox strictly platonic. But when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever—even if she is the only reason their already broken family could fall apart.
In the first installment of the Maddox Brothers books, readers can experience the rush of reading Beautiful Disaster for the first time, all over again.
What I say: If you're reading this review, I'm guessing you've probably read Travis and Abby's story in Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster. If not, then add 'em to your TBR because they're great, in an infuriating and intense kinda way. Beautiful Oblivion is the first in Jamie McGuire's spin-off series focusing on Travis's brothers. We met Trent (Trenton Maddox) in the previous books so I went started Trent's book already a fan. After reading Trent and Cami's story I'm now looking to serve on his fan club committee - he rocks!
Trent is very different to Travis and although he's also intense, it's in a very different way. He's still something of a fighter and is uber possessive but I loved his drive and sweet side. There were times with Travis where I was convinced he had no sense of reason but with Trent I just saw his focus with Cami as determination. Trent's very selfless and spends his time looking after others. I loved Olive!
We also get more insights into Travis and Abby and to see a bit more of what Travis goes through via Cami's observations and POV.
I'm gonna own up to finding Abby really infuriating and kinda annoying at times in BD & WD but luckily Cami is way easier to like than Abby. Don't get me wrong, there were times when I wanted to shout at her about some of her more questionable decisions (like keeping certain HUGE secrets), but she's far more approachable and rational.
I had my suspicions about a certain mystery but wasn't entirely correct. I can't say any more without including a BIG spoiler, but you'll see where I'm coming from when you read Beautiful Oblivion. I'm really intrigued as to what will happen next and where McGuire will take the Maddox brothers from here. I love this is a series and we get more Maddox drama!
4.5 Stars in my Sky!
