Genna Rulon is an up and coming contemporary romance author. During her 15 years in the corporate world, Genna, inspired by her love of reading, fantasized about penning her own stories. Encouraged by her favorite authors, many of whom are indie writers and self-published, she committed to pursuing her aspirations of writing her own novels.
Genna was raised in Long Island, New York, where she still resides, surrounded by the most amazing family and friends. What I say (review): I usually try to play it cool with my reviews (I didn't say I succeeded) but in this case I'm gonna put it out there straight away...I really liked Only For You! Why? It's pretty simple, Genna Rulon does a great job of tackling a pretty horrific subject with care and charm.
Everleigh is in her final term at Hensley University. She lives with her closer-than-a-sister bestie Sam and is looking forward to graduation. Everleigh/Ever/Ev is witty, sarcastic, cynical and obsessed with coffee.
For over a year the female students of Hensley have been plagued by a series of horrific sexual attacks. The students are quite rightly concerned by the attacks and Sam convinces Ev to take self-defense classes with her. Here they meet martial arts extraordinaire and uber hottie instructor Hunter. Hunter promptly kicks Ev out of the class after one too many sarcastic comments.
I really liked Hunter and have added him to my book boyfriend list. I noticed some other reviewers have disliked Hunters aloofness but I found it intriguing. His mysteriousness adds to his charm as does his quick wit and his constantly besting Ev. I'm not going to spoil any of the story for you, so I'll leave you to discover Hunter's awesomeness for yourself.
My favourite part of the story was Ev and Sam's friendship. Although a great deal of the plot focuses on Ev and Hunter, for me the real hook was the wonderful friendship between the girls. Ev and Sam have less than ideal families, so they became each others family at a young age and have been friends ever since. The love they have for each other was so sweet to read about. Speaking about friendships, I'm on the hunt for a barman bestie like Griffin.
The attacks in the story are pretty horrific and thankfully Genna doesn't go into too much detail.
The angst and drama in Only For You is definitely memorable, as is the heartbreak. I wanted to slap some of the characters at times for not realising what was happening sooner. Again, I want to keep this spoiler-free but have the tissues at the ready when reading this one!
