Lick by Kylie Scott Review

Stage Dive #1

What they say: Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.

Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure as hell never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

One thing is for certain, being married to rock and roll’s favourite son is sure to be a wild ride.

What I say: I really enjoyed Lick and found myself laughing and cringing at Evelyn 'Ev' and her predicament from the very beginning. After a night out in Vegas to celebrate her 21st Birthday Ev wakes up hungover, sick and with no recollection of the night before. Oh and did I mention she's somehow married to the random hot guy she finds in her room? Ev's new husband is the now hugely offended, rockstar David Ferris.

My nights out haven't resulted in marriage to a rockstar (there's always time) but I felt instantly sorry for Ev by the situation she's in. David's angry she can't remember him and the press hound her. Before they can get an annulment David summons her to his mansion of horrors to ride out the press storm.

I liked Ev and thought she actually coped with a strange situation well. She has her own insecurities and David isn't exactly forthcoming or open with her. A few of his actions really annoyed me, but I was thankfully Kylie Scott gave him more depth.

I'm a big David fan (no not groupie), because he was really sweet and considerate with Ev. Well, apart from the times when he was an arse, but I could understand where he was coming from; I'd be pretty pissed if somebody couldn't remember marrying me! After all of his rules, I was SO mad by some of his choices. However he redeemed himself and I loved him even more. David has a lot of issues, but it was good to see Ev helping him move on from them.

There are some smexy scenes but these are not overly graphic and they make sense within the story. I LOVED the secondary characters, Mal in particular was awesome!! He actually had some of the best lines and I'm glad he's the focus of the next book!

Lick is a great contemporary mix of fun, sexy and dramatic. It also features some heartbreaking moments alongside angst, humour and rockstar goodness!

4 Stars in my Sky!

My fav non-spoilery quotes:

  • "I feel your manpain, bro. Really, I do. I mean, all you wanted was a girl that wouldn't kiss your ass for once and now you're pissed at her for the same damn reason."
  • “Let me get this straight, you don't remember anything?" "No," I said, swallowing hard. "What did we do last night?" "We got f#$king married," he growled.”
  • "You're still a little cold. I could warm you up. Where do you stand on me copping a feel in public?"
  • "The pleasure was all mine," he drawled. "Sure you wanna go with him, child bride? F#$ktard here made you cry. I make you laugh."
