Tour & Review - All the Ways to Ruin a Rogue

All the Ways to Ruin a Rogue - The Debutante Files #2
by Sophie Jordan

What they say: New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sophie Jordan continues her new series, The Debutante Files, featuring debutantes on the hunt for Mr. Right.

First friends, then enemies...

Lady Aurelia hasn’t always hated Max, Viscount Camden, her brother’s best friend. In fact, as a besotted girl, she thrived under his kind attention—sure that he was the most noble and handsome man in the land. Until her young heart discovered what manner of rogue he really was. Now, though she enjoys nothing more than getting on his last nerve, she can’t deny Max drives her to distraction—even if she tries to pretend otherwise.

Now something more...

Max cannot recall a time when Aurelia did not vex him. If she was not his friend’s sister, he would stay far away from the infuriating vixen. Unfortunately, they are always thrown together. At parties and family gatherings…she is always there. Mocking him, tossing punch in his face, driving him mad ... until one night, she goes too far and he retaliates in the only way he can: with a kiss that changes everything.

What I say: All the Ways to Ruin a Rogue is the second in Sophie Jordan's standalone historical series. I haven't read the first book in the series but the book works well alone and I didn't feel as though I had missed anything (I'm definitely going to make the time to read book 1).

The story is about crossed wires, misunderstandings, unreachable expectations and of course second chances.

Then: as a young girl Aurelia put her older brother Will's best friend Max on an extremely high pedestal. A series of unfortunate events result in his spectacular fall from grace in Aurelia's eyes and the end of their friendship.

The present: Max and Aurelia don't get on. Their arguments are as notorious as Max's reputation. Aurelia is fiercely independent and doesn't want to be married off. But unless she wants to be spend a lonely life as a spinster or be a constant burden to her brother, she may not have a choice. Max on the other hand has been burnt by the past and has no intention of risking being hurt by love.

I loved the banter and squabbling between Aurelia and Max - they didn't fail to make me laugh. I did find myself getting annoyed by their complete lack of sense when it came to the other, and I did wonder how Max could have missed her infatuation with him or his own interest in her.

There are lots of sassy scenes in the story. The pacing of events was good and balanced, it didn't feel too rushed. I enjoyed their story and would love to catch up on the previous book and to see what happens next.
3.5 Stars in my Sky!
