"We met in a nightmare. The in-between world where time had no power over reason. We fell in love. We fell hard. But then we woke up. And it was over..."

She is a woman divided. Her past, present, and future are as twisted as the lies she's lived for the past eight years. Desperate to get the truth, she must turn to the one man who may also be her greatest enemy . . .

He is the president of Pure Corruption MC. A heartless biker and retribution-deliverer. He accepts no rules, obeys no one, and lives only to reap revenge on those who wronged him. And now he has stolen her, body and soul.

Can a woman plagued by mystery fall in love with the man who refuses to face the truth? And can a man drenched in darkness forgo his quest for vengeance-and finally find redemption?

"Ruin & Rule is a full-length book at 436 pages and ends on a cliffhanger. Cleo and Kill's story continues in SIN & SUFFER."

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: It's extremely difficult to review Ruin & Rule without giving away any crucial details or spoiling any of this dark and complicated story, but I'm going to give it a good try.

The story begins with an unknown woman awakening to discover that not only has she been abducted, but that she's in the middle of a biker war. She has amnesia and doesn't even know her own name, age or where she's from. We do get many revelations about the young woman and her place in the biker world throughout the story, but the secret behind her name is a spoiler and so I'm going to call the woman Her (I hope this isn't too annoying).

Arthur 'Kill' Killian is the unusually young president of Pure Corruption motorcycle club. Kill is on one hell of a revenge mission and is fighting off attacks from many directions. His mission is thrown completely off kilter when he is faced with Her.

From their first meeting it become clear to Her that they have met before but Kill remains quiet and aloof. She has to bargain for details which is very dangerous in Kill's brutal world. If you've read a Pepper Winters book before then you'll probably be aware that she tends to write 'dark' romances, which skirt along the lines of certain moral issues. Similarly Ruin & Rule covers many controversial topics including sex trafficking, dubious consent, violence, murder and drugs - so it may hold potential triggers for some people. Although there are many 'dark' topics, the plot isn't an all out dark romance, and it isn't a BDSM story (yet - part two may be). I saw another reviewer refer to the book as a 'grey romance' when compared to Pepper Winters's previous stories and I think this is a good way to describe the story.

There is angst and drama throughout the story but there are also some fun and more charming moments. Both Her and Kill have their own motivations and I couldn't help thinking that they were both being played. My cynical brain kept insisting that a certain person was not at all what he seemed.

Kill isn't always easy to like I did get annoyed about his reluctance to share any details with Her. If I lost my memories I'd be pretty peeved with anybody withholding any helpful information. After certain revelations I did completely understand why he held back but then this revelation lead to another set of questions.

The book does end on a cliffy and although I normally hate cliffhangers I felt like it actually sets up the next book nicely. Be prepared to be conflicted by Kill and his antics; he's challenging, controlling, sexy and guarded but he had me hoping they'd be able to work together for a HEA.

4 - 4.5 Stars in my Sky!
