The Shape Of My Heart Review

The Shape of My Heart - 2B Trilogy #3
by Ann Aguirre

THE SHAPE OF MY HEART on Goodreads

Some people wait decades to meet their soul mate. Courtney Kaufman suspects she met hers in high school only to lose him at seventeen. Since then, Courtney's social life has been a series of meaningless encounters, though she's made a few close friends along the way. Especially her roommate Max Cooper, who oozes damaged bad-boy vibes from every pore.

Max knows about feeling lost and trying to move beyond the pain he's been on his own since he was sixteen. Now it's time to find out if he can ever go home again, and Courtney's the only one he trusts to go with him. But the trip to Providence could change everything because the more time he spends with Courtney, the harder it is to reconcile what he wants and what he thinks he deserves.

It started out so simple. One misfit helping another. Now Max will do anything to show Courtney that for every heart that's ever been broken, there's another that can make it complete.

Ann Aguirre is a New York Times & USA Today bestselling author and RITA winner with a degree in English Literature; before she began writing full time, she was a clown, a clerk, a voice actress, and a savior of stray kittens, not necessarily in that order. She grew up in a yellow house across from a cornfield, but now she lives in sunny Mexico with her husband, children, and various pets. Ann likes books, emo music, action movies, and she writes all kinds of genre fiction for adults and teens, published with Harlequin, Macmillan, and Penguin, among others.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: I've really enjoyed Ann Aguirre's 2B Trilogy and although it's bittersweet to have finished reading about the characters in the last instalment The Shape of My Heart finished things with a bang.

The great thing about the series is that even though the characters are connected the three books have focused on individual couples and work as standalones. The Shape of My Heart sees Courtney and Max take centre stage.

If you've read the previous two books you'll know Max as the bad boy loner of the group, who sleeps around and disappears a lot. As the story progresses we learn not to judge people and that Max has far more depth than expected. Courtney moved into Lauren's old room with Nadia but until now we didn't really know much about her.

I TOTALLY misjudged Max! He's sweet, vulnerable and dedicated when it comes to Courtney - massive swoon!! His past is really sad (so is Courtney's just in a very different way) and it was tough to see his insecurities. I wanted to give him a big hug. He's not at all shallow and adores Courtney as she is.

Courtney's level headed and guarded (you'll understand why when you read her story) but I did want to shout at her whenever she'd let her past and insecurities get in the way of their happiness.

The pacing a slow burn but their relationship works well (even if it is a little frustrating at times). It was a treat getting to see former characters and to meet new ones along the way. The banter between the characters and Courtney's refusal to dress up made me smile. The Shape of My Heart is a fun and well rounded conclusion to the 2B Trilogy.

Stars in my Sky!
