I Will Marry George Cloony (By Christmas)

A brand new very funny Christmas novel, from the bestselling author of No-One Ever Has Sex on a Tuesday and Single Woman Seeks Revenge.

There comes a time in every woman's life when the only answer is to marry George Clooney.

For Michelle, that time is now.

Slogging her guts out in a chicken factory whilst single-handedly bringing up a teenager who hates her is far from the life that 36-year-old Michelle had planned.

But marrying the most eligible man on the planet by Christmas could change all that, couldn't it?

Sometimes your only option is to dream the impossible - because you never know where it might take you.

I received a copy from the publisher Random House UK, Cornerstone (via NetGalley) in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: Michelle is stuck in a rut. She's doing a job she hates, has more than a few problems with her teenage daughter Josie and has no time for dating. Her plan to fix thing is to marry George Clooney and rebuild her relationship with Josie.

For the most part the book is really funny. Michelle's unfortunate but plucky - she never failed to make me smile. I felt genuinely sorry for her plight and wanted her to succeed. Yes, I know George Clooney is married to somebody else now, but the story is more about Michelle achieving her other (more realistic) dreams and her family accepting her as she is.

My favourite parts were largely the scenes with Michelle's friends Gina and Daz; they were hilarious. There were a few times when I doubted whether it was actually healthy for them to encourage or enable her quest, but I think it was actually more about friendship and being there for each other (however wacky the need is).

The ending is a little short and things wrap up fairly quickly but I appreciated what happened and the book made me smile. It's not a Christmas story (I lead myself astray with the title) but this doesn't really matter.

3.5 Stars in my Sky!
