Something Different - Hollow Kingdom

Not sure what to say about this one - check out the blurb...

Hollow Kingdom
by Kira Buxton

What they say: One pet crow fights to save humanity from an apocalypse in this uniquely hilarious debut from a genre-bending literary author.

S.T., a domesticated crow, is a bird of simple pleasures: hanging out with his owner Big Jim, trading insults with Seattle's wild crows (those idiots), and enjoying the finest food humankind has to offer: Cheetos ®.

Then Big Jim's eyeball falls out of his head, and S.T. starts to feel like something isn't quite right. His most tried-and-true remedies--from beak-delivered beer to the slobbering affection of Big Jim's loyal but dim-witted dog, Dennis--fail to cure Big Jim's debilitating malady. S.T. is left with no choice but to abandon his old life and venture out into a wild and frightening new world with his trusty steed Dennis, where he discovers that the neighbors are devouring each other and the local wildlife is abuzz with rumors of dangerous new predators roaming Seattle. Humanity's extinction has seemingly arrived, and the only one determined to save it is a foul-mouthed crow whose knowledge of the world around him comes from his TV-watching education.

Hollow Kingdom is a humorous, big-hearted, and boundlessly beautiful romp through the apocalypse and the world that comes after, where even a cowardly crow can become a hero.

Reading Spots

All the Bookish Things

I don't know about you but I love to find a comfy spot to snuggle down to read exciting new books & of course my old favourites?!

I've been on the hunt for a special reading chair for a while now and decided to splurge on this beauty as soon as I saw it...

It cost me a fortune, is basically too large for my room and is a totally random mixture of granny chic and modern kitsch but I freaking love it - It's an awesome reading spot.

Do you have a fav reading chair, snug or spot? Share your pics and I'll add them to the board.

Because I'm a Geek...

I find this sort of thing hilarious!!

When one book or object makes you think of another.

Rome falling off a shelf = the fall of Rome.

A textbook with an obvious Star Wars theme.

Surely it isn't just me who does this?

Books in Weird Places - Call Out

I'm researching for a post on usual reading spots and strange places you've discovered books.

My top reading spot: Whenever I'm on holiday in the French Alps I always find my perfect snug reading spot. It's always somewhere I can be warm and cozy, whilst reading a book, and of course be surrounded by snow - no idea why, but there's something really satisfying about it!

On our balcony on my last snowboarding hol.

Strangest place I've found a book: On my round-the-world-trip I found a Robin Hobb book wedged into a crack in a palm tree. This was on a tiny Fijian island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and it had been there for years (unfortunately I can't find the pic).

If you have any stories or pics of great, strange and interesting reading spots please let me know & I'll feature them on the blog.

Rant of the Day - Different eBook Formats

Grr!! Blooming epub files!

Dear iBooks & Kindle,
Why do you try to make me choose. Can't we all be friends & work together...?!
Zili x

Given the choice I buy the actual book or an Amazon eBook purely because the mobi files work best on my beloved Kindle. I have an iPad and although it gives me pretty coloured eBooks, it's much heavier to hold & I don't really like reading books on it. BUT as a reviewer sometimes I receive eARCs as iBooks/epub or even PDF files, which either don't load on my kindle or are formatted weirdly. So I have to use my iPad, but this really annoys me. Money making and legalities aside, it really would make readers like me happy to have the option to open the different formats on all devices.

Pointless rant over & Happy Saturday lovelies!

Forever Moments - Celebrating 'Those' special moments.

#ForeverMoments

‪#‎ForeverMoments is an idea inspired by Jennifer L. Armentrout's FOREVER WITH YOU *fan-girl swoon*. Today myself and lots of writers, bloggers and readers are joining in the celebration by posting about the special moments, events and people, that will stay with us forever.

My #ForeverMoments - Some are more poignant than others, but they've all stay with me for a variety of reasons.

(I promised I wouldn't give names and to keep this as vague as possible).

Here's to Harry Potter, fate and lasting friendship:
A bit of background on this one: I started University as an only child who had never had to share my space and was horrified by the idea of sharing a dorm room with a complete stranger. This may not seem like a big deal, but to me at the time, it really was (only children are used to their own space). I was terrified I'd have a big scary roomie, who'd hate me on sight, but from the first moment JC entered the room carrying her Harry Potter books and bottles of schnapps, I was like "we've SO got this!" We survived horrible boyfriends, campus food, an accidental slap and real heartbreak. We bonded over snowboarding, Pimms and HP. My #ForeverMoment is queueing for over 12 hours in central London, dressed in our Gryffindor robes, to get our hands on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. JC came down just to celebrate with me. Another one of our friends told me afterwards that she had never seen us happier than in the pictures of when we finally got our hands on the book. I'm really not sure what this says about me, but as two girls who had been there with Harry, Ron and Hermione right from the start (I'm lucky to own first editions of all the books), this silly moment will stay with me forever. Only a true friend would get why this was so important and JC didn't hesitate for a second to come with me.

For the win!
I've developed something of a paranoia that I'm a jinx when it comes to loved ones being in hospital or going to the doctor. At one stage it seemed like everybody I've left in hospital has then passed away. So when a family member recently found himself in the ICU I didn't want to leave him there for fear the reaper would strike again (I'm nothing if not dramatic). Another lovely relative dragged me out, held my hand whilst I had a meltdown, and convinced me everything would be fine. The #ForeverMoment here is is twofold. One for my relative for putting up with my irrational fear. But mostly for him. He broke this horrible trend by kicking my and the ICU's arse!!

Never underestimate the kindness of strangers:
Another #ForeverMoment was the 'perfect day' I spend with complete strangers when I was travelling in Fiji. On this day and much to the disgust of the poor tour guide, we all jumped off the boat in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and swam ashore to one of the random and beautiful islands. We spent all day and night pretending to be Castaways. We shared food and stories well into the night and I will always remember this as one truly perfect day! We didn't know each other and without looking at my travelling journal, I cannot remember all the names of the people there, but I do remember how, for that day we didn't worry about money, health, technology or anything else. So THANK YOU all :)

What is your #ForeverMoment ?!

A bit about the book:

FOREVER WITH YOU - In the irresistibly sexy series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout, two free spirits find their lives changed by a one-night stand…

Some things you just believe in, even if you've never experienced them. For Stephanie, that list includes love. It's out there. Somewhere. Eventually. Meanwhile she's got her job at the mixed martial arts training center and hot flings with gorgeous, temporary guys like Nick. Then a secret brings them closer, opening Steph's eyes to a future she never knew she wanted—until tragedy rips it away.

Nick's self-assured surface shields a past no one needs to know about. His mind-blowing connection with Steph changes all that. As fast as he's knocking down the walls that have kept him commitment-free, she's building them up again, determined to keep the hurt—and Nick—out. But he can't walk away. Not when she's the only one who's ever made him wish for forever…

And don’t miss the previous titles in the Wait for You Series!

WAIT FOR YOU (Wait for You #1)

TRUST IN ME (Wait for You #1.5)

BE WITH ME (Wait for You #2)

STAY WITH ME (Wait for You #3)

Want to know more about Jennifer L. Armentrout? Well here's how:

# 1 New York Times and # 1 International Bestselling author Jennifer lives in Martinsburg, West Virginia. All the rumors you’ve heard about her state aren’t true. When she’s not hard at work writing, she spends her time reading, watching really bad zombie movies, pretending to write, and hanging out with her husband and her Jack Russell Loki.

Her dreams of becoming an author started in algebra class, where she spent most of her time writing short stories….which explains her dismal grades in math. Jennifer writes young adult paranormal, science fiction, fantasy, and contemporary romance. She is published with Spencer Hill Press, Entangled Teen and Brazen, Disney/Hyperion and Harlequin Teen. Her book Obsidian has been optioned for a major motion picture and her Covenant Series has been optioned for TV. Top YA quote of the Day

Frostbite - Vampire Academy #2
by Richelle Mead

"I think you smoke them so you have something to do while thinking up your next witty line."
He choked on the smoke, caught between inhaling and laughing. "Rose Hathaway, I can't wait to see you again. If you're this charming while tired and annoyed, and this gorgeous while bruised and in ski clothes, you must be devastating at your peak."
"If by 'devastating' you mean that you should fear for your life, then yeah. You're right." I jerked open the door. "Good night, Adrian."
"I'll see you soon."
"Not likely. I told you, I'm not into older guys."
I walked into the lodge. As the door closed, I just barely heard him call behind me, "Sure, you aren't."
