Entangled Teen Crush
Zoe Cain knows that Grant Evertide is way out of her league. So naturally, she kisses him. Out of spite. Not only is Grant her brother’s number-one nemesis, but he has zero interest in being tied down to one girl. She’s shocked—and secretly thrilled—when they start spending more time together. Non-exclusively, of course, but that doesn’t mean Zoe can’t change his mind, one PDA and after-school detention at a time.
Zoe’s brother claims Grant is trying to make her his “Ringer,” an oh-so-charming tradition where a popular guy dates a non-popular girl until he hooks up with her, then dumps her. Zoe threatens to neuter Grant with hedge clippers if he's lying but Grant swears he isn’t trying to trick her. Still, that doesn’t mean Grant is the commitment type—even if winning a bet is on the line.
Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains multiple PDAs, after-school detentions, and gambling on the side. Warning: betting on a boyfriend is bad for your health.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!
What I say: I read a vast amount of fantasy and paranormal books so it's nice to find something based more in the realms of reality. What better way than with a sweet YA contemporary romance like The Boyfriend Bet.
I throughly enjoyed Zoe's and Grant's story and found their banter hilariously charming. Zoe is rash, spontaneous and passionate but also really funny. She's extremely loyal and determined, but hidden under all that sass is a sweet young girl who wants to flirt with the hot boy. I would have liked to see her really stand up for herself a little more but she always made me smile.
Grant is cheeky, infuriating and of course gorgeous, but has a reputation as a player. There were times when I considered calling him the King of indecisiveness because he couldn't decide what he wanted, but as the story developed I understood why he does what he does more and more.
I really liked the secondary characters, Aiden was definitely my favourite, although I also loved Zoe's Gran and bestie Delia, who has some fantastic one-liners.
