What I say: I'm a big fan of the 1001 Dark Nights anthology series. What better way to be introduced to a series than by a novella?! Plus if you're already a fan of one of the featured authors/series' then it's always nice to get sneaky extra stories.
DRAGON FEVER is a part of the Dark Kings series and I have to admit I was a complete newbie to Donna Grant's adult paranormal series about mythological dragons living in the modern world. The Dragons have two forms, both dragon (of course) and human. If I had the chance then I'd go back and read the earlier books in the series first, but it does work as a standalone. I didn't feel too lost, but it's always nice to read books in series order to make sure you understand all of the events.  

The Dark Kings are on the cusp of discovery, the possible existence of dragons is becoming more prominent in the media. Journalist Rachel has been challenged with writing the ultimate exposé to enlighten the world about these so-called "horrific" beasts. 

As a Dark King, Asher is determined to protect dragons and promoting the family business. He's instantly taken by Rachel and wastes little time trying to charm her. Rachel's trying to resist him whilst seducing a story from him (a tricky task).

The action is pretty quick and dramatic. I would have liked to see certain aspects developed over a longer period of time because I wasn't 100% convinced by speed of events. Nevertheless I enjoyed the novella and have since started the rest of the series. 

The romance is detailed and naughty so be prepared to blush. Not quite insta-love but there's definitely more than a little bit of insta-lust...

It had been so easy to gain Asher’s attention. Then again, she had dressed the part. Though Rachel hadn’t expected such an immediate interaction with him, she was still pleased. She’d guessed right in what would draw his attention.

“Good evening,” he said in a smooth, deep brogue that she wanted to hate but couldn’t.

She nodded, smiling “Evening.”

“Ah. American.”

“Is that a problem?”

He was quick to shake his head. “No’ at all. I’ve several close friends who are married to Americans. I’m Asher, by the way.”

She took his hand. His long fingers tenderly wrapped around hers as his Scottish brogue fell from his lips. “Rae.”

“A curiously male name for a verra feminine woman.”

“It’s a nickname.” It was a trick of any good undercover journalist worth their salt to remain close to the truth in any scenario. Sharing an old nickname allowed her to use something other than her name, but still answer to it because she knew it.

“And your real name?”

She smiled flirtatiously. “That I save for those I deem worthy.”

One side of his lips lifted in a shockingly seductive grin. He leaned back in his chair casually, those bright green eyes of his studying her, as if by staring he might be able to see all the secrets she kept hidden away.

Rachel found herself gazing into his eyes. Never had she seen eyes such a dazzling green before. Even if she hadn’t known he was an immortal and a Dragon King, the truth of who he was blazed in those eyes of his.

“Your smile is fading. Why?” he asked, a small frown forming.

“Do you believe you can see a person’s soul in their eyes?”

“Aye,” he replied immediately.
