Moonlight Sins - Review

Moonlight Sins: A de Vincent Novel
by Jennifer L. Armentrout

What they say: New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout delivers the unforgettable story of a woman whose new life has just begun—but may end in murder...

Julia Hughes has always played it safe until she learned a very painful lesson. Now Julia’s starting over with a job in the Louisiana bayou—and a scorching encounter with a stranger, only to discover he’s Lucian de Vincent... her new employer. The de Vincent brothers share a massive fortune and a dark reputation. Julia cares for their troubled sister, but a menacing presence in the mansion—and the ever-present temptation of Lucian—prove dangerously distracting.

Lucian’s grandmother claimed de Vincent men fall in love once—and hard. Apparently, it’s Lucian’s turn. Julia’s compassionate care of his twin makes Lucian want to lay himself bare. But some secrets are better for Julia not to know.

The recent “suicide” of Lucian’s father is the latest in a string of deaths on the estate. Someone is eliminating the de Vincents. And the best way to get to Lucian may be through Julia...

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: Oh the mystery! JLA takes her writing in a different direction with Moonlight Sins. We get crime, romance and mystery presented with the usual JLA aplomb and dramatic wit.

I'd find it very difficult to find a contemporary author who consistently creates more intriguing and well developed characters than JLA. Her characters are often broken but they never feel false or unfinished. What I particularly liked about Julia and Lucian is their similarities through difference - they're total opposites, yet at their core have remarkably similar common goals and ideals.

Julia and Lucian are both damaged. They have very different stories but have suffered greatly. They must learn to work together to heal old wounds and find peace with the past. Lucian's family may be richer than Croesus but the de Vincent's are proof that money doesn't buy everything and certainly not happiness. The brothers are trapped by the family name and are cursed to be unlucky in love.

Lucian is full of sexy, arrogant charm and swagger. He's darker than your average JLA hero but he's loyal to a fault and will do anything to protect those he loves. Wowzers, talk about intense!

Julia is vulnerable and broken, but most importantly she's really flipping brave. I have a lot of respect for a character who tackles her fear rather than letting it control her. She's also really funny.

I'm looking forward to Gabe being put in his place in the next instalment of the de Vincent series!

4 Stars in my Sky!
