Unrivalled is the first in a thrilling new suspense trilogy following three very different teens who all find themselves with a VIP invite to the glamorous and gritty world of Los Angeles’s nightlife. They are lured into a high-stakes nightclub competition where Hollywood “It Girl” Madison Brooks is the target. But just as their wildest dreams begin to gleam like stars through the California smog, Madison Brooks goes missing and all of their hopes are blacked out in the haze of their lies. With Unrivalled, Alyson Noël skilfully reveals the way our most desperate dreams can become our darkest nightmares.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: Unrivalled sees four teens compete in what can be described as the ultimate and most extreme job interview ever! If you combine a teen version The Apprentice, with Pretty Little Liars, The Hills and Gossip Girl you still wouldn't be all that close to the premise of the book but you'd be heading in the right direction.

Layla, Aster, Tommy and Madison all have very different motivations for entering the show, but they all want to make it in Hollywood and keep their fame.

I'm going to admit that I didn't necessarily like all of the characters and did find some of the backstabbing Made in Chelsea style dramas a little much at times, BUT I did really enjoy Unrivalled and found myself getting sucked into the mystery #Ohthedrama

I did get the song Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous stuck in my head reading the book, and for somebody not all that into reality TV, I enjoyed seeing them battle for the club promotion job and recognition. Alyson Noel does a great job conveying the fickle nature of fame and the lengths people will go to not only achieve celebrity status but also to maintain it.

I particularly enjoyed the structure of Unrivalled and felt the mystery/thriller element really helped keep the plot intriguing so it wasn't all teen drama...

4 Stars in my Sky!

He lowered himself into the seat, settling into such a major man spread, one of his knees bumped against hers.
She sighed loud enough for him to hear. She had graduated from a snot to  a colossal bitch, but she just didn't care.
"Sorry." He drew his legs in, which was better, until his foot started to jiggle.
She focused hard on her cell, doing her best to ignore him, but there was no use.
"Can you just-"
He followed the tip of her pointing finger to his bouncing foot.
"Oh. Guess I'm a little nervous." He laughed. "Which probably makes me sound really uncool, but there it is. So, how'd you hear about this?"
Completely out of patience, Layla turned to him and said, "Listen-can we not do this?"
"Do what?" His grin was slow, wide, and disarmingly open. And when her gaze met his, all she could manage was a sharp intake of breath. His eyes were the most intense shade of blue she'd ever seen.
She stole a quick glance as this name tag, Tommy, and fought to pull herself together. "Let's not chitchat, make small talk, or pretend to be friends." Her tone was harsh, way too harsh for the circumstance, but she was beginning to think she should've listened to Mateo and avoided this place.
"Your call." Tommy shrugged. Dismissing her so easily she couldn't help but feel a little incensed by that too. "Too bad, though. From what I've seen so far, friends are in short supply around here."
His words settled around her. And while part of her wished she could lighten up, another part, the part that was frustrated, insecure, and woefully out of her league, said, "Yeah, well, welcome to Hollywood."
