All About the Movie - Resistance Reborn

Fangirl squeal! The movie's coming soon, but first...

Resistance Reborn - Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
by Rebecca Roanhorse

What they say: The heroes of the Resistance must fight back fro the edge of the oblivion in this pivotal prequel to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

The Resistance is in ruins. In the wake of their harrowing escape from Crait, what was once an army has been reduced to a handful of wounded heroes. Finn, Poe, Rey, Rose, Chewbacca, Leia Organa -- their names are famous among the oppressed worlds they fight to liberate. But names can only get you so far, and Leia's last desperate call for aid has gone unanswered.

From jungles of Ryloth to the shipyards of Corellia, the shadow of the First Order looms large, and those with the bravery to face the darkness are scattered and isolated. If hope is to survive, the Resistance must journey throughout the galaxy, seeking out more leaders - including those who, in days gone by, helped a nascent rebellion tripple an empire. Battles will be fought, alliances will be forged, and the Resistance will be reborn.

She needs to find out the truth about who she is―and who she was. But every answer she finds only brings up more questions.

Her search for the truth brings her ever closer to Luc, the Origin at the center of it all. He’s powerful, arrogant, inhumanly beautiful, extremely dangerous…and possibly in love with her. But even as Evie falls for him, she can’t help but wonder if his attraction is to her, or to the memory of a girl who no longer exists.

And all the while, a new threat looms: reports of a flu-like, fatal virus that the government insists is being spread by Luxen. A horrifying illness that changes whoever it touches, spreading panic across a country already at its breaking point.

Coming Soon - FIRE AND BLOOD

Team Targaryen for the win!

A Song of Ice and Fire companion novel and a big ole present for fan girls like me...
by George R.R. Martin

Fire and Blood: A history if the Targaryen Kings from Aegon the Conqueror to Aegon III as scribed by Archmaester Gyldayn

What they say: Set 300 years before the events in A Song of Ice and Fire, Fire and Blood is the definitive history of the Targaryens in Westeros as told by Archmaester Gyldayn, and chronicles the conquest that united the Seven Kingdoms under Targaryen rule through the Dance of the Dragons: the Targaryen civil war that nearly ended their dynasty forever.

The thrilling history of the Targaryens comes to life in this masterly work by the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, the inspiration for HBO’s Game of Thrones.

With all the fire and fury fans have come to expect from internationally best-selling author George R.R. Martin, this is the first volume of the definitive two-part history of the Targaryens in Westeros.

Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen – the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria – took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire and Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.

What really happened during the Dance of the Dragons? Why did it become so deadly to visit Valyria after the Doom? What is the origin of Daenerys’s three dragon eggs? These are but a few of the questions answered in this essential chronicle, as related by a learned maester of the Citadel and featuring more than eighty all-new black-and-white illustrations by artist Doug Wheatley. Readers have glimpsed small parts of this narrative in such volumes as The World of Ice & Fire but now, for the first time, the full tapestry of Targaryen history is revealed.

With all the scope and grandeur of Gibbon’s The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Fire and Blood is the ultimate game of thrones, giving readers a whole new appreciation for the dynamic, often bloody, and always fascinating history of Westeros.

Whatcha Reading Wednesday - More Than Words

Fangirl scream!!

More Than Words
by Mia Sheridan

What they say: No one lays open the heart and soul quite like New York Times bestselling author Mia Sheridan.

The moment she met Callen Hayes, eleven-year-old Jessica Creswell knew he was a broken prince. Her prince. They became each other's refuge, a safe and magical place far from their troubled lives. Until the day Callen kissed her--Jessica's first real, dreamy kiss—and then disappeared from her life without a word.

Years later, everyone knows who Callen Hayes is. Famous composer. Infamous bad boy. What no one knows is that Callen's music is now locked deep inside, trapped behind his own inner demons. It's only when he withdraws to France to drink his way through the darkness that Callen stumbles into the one person who makes the music return. Jessica. His Jessie. And she still tastes of fresh, sweet innocence . . . even as she sets his blood on fire.

But they don't belong in each other's worlds anymore. There are too many mistakes. Too many secrets. Too many lies. All they have is that instinctive longing, that need—and something that looks dangerously like love.

Blast from the Past Review - White Hot Kiss

I'm reliving the awesomeness that is Layla, Roth and Zayne by rereading White Hot Kiss.

The Dark Elements #1 by Jennifer L. Armentrout (you can read my review of the prequel novella Bitter Sweet Love #0.5 here).

What they say: One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

What I say: It seems like I've been waiting ages for the release of White Hot Kiss. But once I finished moaning about the later UK release date and it had appeared on my kindle I realised it was as good, if not better than expected and defo worth the wait!

It's no secret I'm a big fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout/J. Lynn and all her books, but I wasn't entirely sure I'd ever like gargoyles (Wardens) and demons as much as I do her aliens, demi-gods and smoking hot contemporary heroes. BUT was completely won over and I loved the concept and her new characters!

With a JLA book you know you're always going to get a good mix of fab characters, tricky themes and awesome banter. In White Hot Kiss JLA has managed to merge the paranormal aspects (demons & gargoyles) with your usual teenage emotional dramas. She introduced her new world of Wardens and demons in Bitter Sweet Love but it was in White Hot Kiss where she gets down to the real nitty-gritty! I hadn't really though much about gargoyles other than in the Beauty and the Beast Disney movie until now but I loved the lore JLA created.

Layla is a half-warden, half-demon who attends school with her human friends. Her nature means she craves souls and can't even kiss anybody without risking their soul. This is never good when you're in love with your Warden bestie Zayne. Her demon side makes her something of a strange entity in the gargoyle Warden world. She's sort of subservient to the Wardens and hasn't really thought to challenge how things are until demon Roth comes along.

I'm sure we're supposed to like Zayne as he's the hottie she can never have. Layla can't risk Zayne's soul, she doesn't think he likes her as more than a friend & he's supposed to be with Danica (Jasmine's younger sister from Bitter Sweet Love). It seemed obvious to me that he's into Layla in far more than a friendly, older brother kinda way. I'm guessing Zayne will appear more in Stone Cold Touch, because although Layla loves him and he takes care of her, he did come across as slightly condescending at times, but then I suppose they are both in a difficult situation!

Now onto Roth (aka the guy JLA based Daemon Black on), he's an uber sexy demon. The thing I loved most about him was his always-on-point sarcasm - the dude had some great one-liners! The thing with Roth is, although he has a lot of secrets and is a demon (i.e. never trust a demon because they manipulate and lie), he's always pretty upfront about what (or who) he wants and seems to genuinely care for Layla. Roth makes her feel alive and attractive for the first time in her life. As the book progresses she is very rightly confused and torn over her feelings for the two guys. As far as love triangles go, they normally annoy the hell out of me, but in this case I have no idea what's going to happen or who is better for her.

Be warned there is a cliffy!! But rather than being annoyed, it left me excited and feeling kinda upbeat for the release of Stone Cold Touch (see the cover reveal here) so good work JLA!!

So do you think demons and gargoyles are the new (Daemon) black?!

4.5 Well deserved Stars in my Sky!

Review - Till Death

Till Death
by Jennifer L. Armentrout

In New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s gripping new novel, a young woman comes home to reclaim her life—even as a murderer plots to end it...

It’s been ten years since Sasha Keaton left her West Virginia hometown . . . since she escaped the twisted serial killer known as the Groom. Returning to help run her family inn means being whole again, except for one missing piece. The piece that falls into place when Sasha’s threatened—and FBI agent Cole Landis vows to protect her the way he couldn’t a decade ago.

First one woman disappears; then another, and all the while, disturbing calling cards are left for the sole survivor of the Groom’s reign of terror. Cole’s never forgiven himself for not being there when Sasha was taken, but he intends to make up for it now... because under the quirky sexiness Cole first fell for is a steely strength that only makes him love Sasha more.

But someone is watching. Waiting. And Sasha’s first mistake could be her last.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: I seem to say this at the start of every book I review by Jennifer L. Armentrout, but I think it's good to be upfront about my JLA fan girl status.

Sasha's return to her hometown is fraught with angst, heartbreak and one heck of a shocking murder mystery. When she goes home to assist her mother, Sasha discovers that she cannot escape the devastating events of the past and nor can the people around her. The psychotic serial killer, the Groom, may be gone but his evil is far reaching and the town may be facing a copycat killer...

At first glance Sasha seems more reserved than the usual JLA female lead, however this can quickly be explained by the absolutely horrific things that happened to her ten years ago. BUT the more we discover about Sasha, it becomes clear that although she may be quite and often withdrawn, she's just as sassy and funny as the rest of JLA's fab heroines, if not more so because she's a survivor.

Oh Cole! *Le swoon!* He blames himself for everything Sasha went through with the Groom and is determined to keep her safe now and to win her heart. Cole's the perfect mixture of badass and caring protector - everything Sasha doesn't know she needs.

Till Death is something different from JLA. Where she's probably best known for her YA fantasy and gritty contemporary romances, she's not really known for mystery and suspense stories (yes I do remember Don't Look Back but this is very different).

The book is packed full of everything I love about JLA's writing but comes with the added bonus of the murder mystery element. There are lots of sneaky clues and red-herrings along the way, which will keep even the most astute of us guessing until the end.

I'm going to post a trigger warning due to the adult content and the horrifying acts committed.

4 - 4.5 Stars in my Sky!

BBF Monday - King of all Luxen

Daemon Black - anybody?!

Not met Daemon yet? Why Not? I'm kidding, well kinda!
I'm very much on #TeamDaemon and a huge JLA fangirl.

I first discovered Jennifer L. Armentrout's Lux series years ago when Obsidian appeared on my recommended reading list (probably because I'd recently rediscovered Roswell High). I love the series largely because of the banter between Katy and Daemon.

Daemon Black is a charming, flirty and super hot alien bad ass who completely changes Katy's life.

I love the entire series but I particularly enjoyed the insight into his mind in Oblivion...

My fav non-spoilery Luz series quotes:

  • "Beautiful face. Beautiful body. Horrible attitude. It was the holy trinity of hot boys."
  • "You know what they say about boys next door..."
  • "Huh. Perhaps I was a bit too much of a dick the first two times I talked to her. Good thing she didn’t know I briefly considered burning her house down."
  • "The skin around her mouth tightened. “I would throw this book at you, but I respect the book too much to do that."
  • "I’ve always found that the most beautiful people, truly beautiful inside and out, are the ones who are quietly unaware of their effect. The ones who throw their beauty around, waste what they have? Their beauty is only passing. It’s just a shell hiding nothing but shadows and emptiness."
  • "A slow, wry smile teased Daemon’s lips. "Simmer down, Kitten, before I have to get you a ball of yarn to play with." Annoyance flared deep inside me. "Don’t start with me, jerk-face."
