DEAR BRIDGET, I WANT YOU - Review

DEAR BRIDGET, I WANT YOU
by Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland

Dear Bridget,
I’m writing this letter because it’s highly doubtful I’ll ever garner the courage to say this to your face.
So, here goes.
We’re totally wrong for each other. You’re the proper single mum with a good head on your shoulders. I’m just the carefree British doctor passing through town and temporarily living in your converted garage until I head back to England.
But here’s the thing… for some bloody reason, I can’t stop thinking about you in very inappropriate ways.
I want you.
The only reason I’m even admitting all of this to you right now is because I don’t believe it’s one-sided. I notice your eyes when you look at me, too. And as crass as I appear when we’re joking around about sex, my attraction to you is not a joke.
So, what’s the purpose of this note? I guess it’s a reminder that we’re adults, that sex is healthy and natural, and that you can find me just through the door past the kitchen. More specifically, it’s to let you know that I’m leaving said door cracked open from now on in case you’d like to visit me in the middle of the night sometime.
No questions asked.
Think about it.
Or don’t.
Whatever you choose.
It’s doubtful I’ll even end up sliding this letter under your door anyway.

What I say: What I enjoy about a Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland story is that they always manage to make me smile, often rant and blush all at once. In Dear Bridget, I Want You we meet Bridget and Simon as they become unlikely housemates, friends and then struggle with the potential for more.

Bridget is a nurse who needs to make more money so she rents her annex apartment out to a friend-of-a-friend who needs a room for a while. What she doesn't expect is for that friend to be the uber sexy, yet irritating doctor she embarrassed herself in front of months ago.

The two form a sweet and hilarious friendship which leads to some often awkward moments. They have a pretty intense connection which they are determined to ignore as Simon's only around for a short while and Bridget has to be careful of her young son Brendan.

As a Brit I'm not going to be easily won over by an English doctor or his accent. To be honest my accent is somewhere between Elizabeth Bennett's and Eliza Doolittle's so being from Leeds Simon's accent is pretty standard round here and no he probably won't sound like Mark Darcy. What Simon did use to win this Brit over was his flirty charm and banter, as well as how caring he is with both Bridget and Brendan.

Bridget is scared of getting hurt again and has erected some pretty big emotional walls around her heart. Simon has his own set of concerns and has a constant battle between what he thinks he wants and what he actually needs.

The only slight negative for me is a huge spoiler so I can't really say much. I will point out it's an event I've unfortunately seen in the last four books I've read with this subject matter so I'm REALLY hoping I won't find it again in the next one. Once I got past my frustration over the revelation I carried on enjoying the story and wanted Simon and Bridget to take a chance on each other.

Simon really brings out the swoon and made me laugh with his smutty innuendos whilst Bridget is vulnerable and charming.

4 Stars in my Sky!
