Wingman rule number one: don’t fall for a client.

After a career-ending accident, former NFL recruit Ian Hunter is back on campus—and he’s ready to get his new game on. As one of the masterminds behind Wingmen, Inc., a successful and secretive word-of-mouth dating service, he’s putting his extensive skills with women to work for the lovelorn. But when Blake Olson requests the services of Wingmen, Inc., Ian may have landed his most hopeless client yet.

From her frumpy athletic gear to her unfortunate choice of footwear, Blake is going to need a miracle if she wants to land her crush. At least with a professional matchmaker by her side she has a fighting chance. Ian knows that his advice and a makeover can turn Blake into another successful match. But as Blake begins the transformation from hot mess to smokin’ hot, Ian realizes he’s in danger of breaking his cardinal rule…

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: I'm going to go out on a limb here and say The Matchmaker's Playbook is my favourite Rachel Van Dyken book so far. It's hilarious, lighthearted and romantic.

I have to admit I'm a sucker for a good old Uni romance, but in the market saturated with college stories, it's often difficult to find something new and not overdone. Whilst we may have read similar stories, RVD puts her usual spin on the plot and made me laugh throughout!

I almost wanted to dislike Ian, because to be honest, at the start, he's kind of an arse. BUT I loved his honesty and fresh perspective, so I couldn't find it in myself to not like him. As the plot develops he really brings out the swoon-worthy swagger to educate and charm Blake.
I liked Blake with her understated charm. The underwear shopping scene had me snorting with laughter. I really couldn't see what she could possibly have found interesting and attractive in David, but I understood her hesitation when it came to a certain former sports star...

I often read stories about a girl and her quirky best girlie friend, so I particularly appreciated Lex and his dirty, geek charm.

In The Matchmaker's Playbook RVD manages to create a lovable player who charms even the most determined wallflower, without making him tired and predictable. Bring on book two!!

4.5 Stars in my Sky!
