What I say: When We Met is a fun Uni based anthology featuring stories by A.L. Jackson, Molly McAdams, Tiffany King and Christina Lee. Rather than simply being a collection of random stories organised together, this one features four specially written novellas about four girls all living in one house. 

Each story focuses on the complicated lives and romances of the girls Misha, Indy, Courtney, and Chloe. I enjoy stories based around friendship groups because they have the bonus of being able to introduce characters gradually and to link common themes. I'm not going to play favourites because I enjoyed all of the stories, that being said, I did have my fav couple (no I'm not going to name them). 

Misha is broken and troubled. She trusted the wrong people and suffers with insecurity. It's up to new neighbour Darryn to bring her out of her shell. Indy hides her troubles with boys, partying and garlic bread until Kier (love the name) challenges and infuriates her. Courtney and Dalton's backstory is a little different from the others but I loved the waitress and the jock elements. Chloe's determined and kinda uptight. She likes control and organisation and is the complete opposite to dreamer Blake. 

When We Met is a sweet, charming and fun anthology with lots of angst and drama. I really appreciated how the stories were all different, yet somehow fit seamlessly together. Some of the stories were sweet and cute, whilst others had more chemistry and naughty bits (they all had their moments here).

Glancing up, I suck my breath in when I find dark eyes connected to mine, eyes so dark they’re almost black, and the energy in them is enough to freeze me in place.

A boy is attached to the dark gaze.

A man.

He’s probably no more than twenty or twenty-one, but everything about him screams man. There’s no boy in him. That part of him is very clearly gone. I see it in his eyes, in the way he holds himself, in the perceptive way he takes in his surroundings, then stares at me with singular focus, like we’re somehow connected by a tether. He’s got a million contradictions in his eyes….aloofness, warmth, mystery, charm, and something else I can’t define.

Courtney Cole is a novelist who would eat mythology for breakfast if she could. She has a degree in Business, but has since discovered that corporate America is not nearly as fun to live in as fictional worlds. She loves chocolate and roller coasters and hates waiting and rude people.

Courtney lives in quiet suburbia, close to Lake Michigan, with her real-life Prince Charming, her ornery kids (there is a small chance that they get their orneriness from their mother) and a small domestic zoo.

What I say: For some unknown reason I thought Providence was about zombies, but I clearly got the wrong book, because it really isn't. The lack of zombies aside, Providence is an interesting read, but not necessarily one of my fav's. I think this is because I didn't really find myself engaging with the characters. But I did like Providence, I just didn't love it.
Jamie McGuire writes great male leads. Alpha's are SO her thing, but I didn't really like Jared all that much. He took his stalker tendencies too far for me and I couldn't get past some of his mistruths or lies. It's not all bad thought because I did like how supportive he was of Nina and their romance was kinda sweet (when I got past the Bella and Edward-like parts).

I wasn't always sure of Nina, but once the plot began to develop I found myself warming towards her. I felt her annoyance at all the lies almost everybody seemed to tell her. 

Even though I wasn't the biggest fan of the first section of the book, I am intrigued by what happens next and I do like Jamie McGuire's writing style. It sort of pains me that I didn't love this one.

What they say: Years before Trip Wiley could be seen on movie screens all over the world, he could be seen sitting in the desk behind me in my high school English class. 

This was back in 1990, and I cite the year only to avoid dumbfounding you when references to big hair or stretch pants are mentioned. Although, come to think of it, I am from Northern New Jersey, which may serve as explanation enough. We were teenagers then, way back in a time before anyone, himself included, could even dream he’d turn into the Hollywood commodity that he is today. 

I’m sure I don’t need to tell you who Trip Wiley is. But on the off chance you’ve been living under a rock for the past decade, just know that these days, he’s the actor found at the top of every casting director’s wish list. He’s incredibly talented and insanely gorgeous, the combination of which has made him very rich, very famous and very desirable. 

And not just to casting directors, either. 

I can’t confirm any of the gossip from his early years out in Tinseltown, but based on what I knew of his life before he was famous, I can tell you that the idea of Girls-Throwing-Themselves-At-Trip is not a new concept. 

I should know. I was one of them. 

And my life hasn’t been the same since.

What I say: I'm pretty late to the party with Remember When but I'm glad I made the time to read T. Torrest's coming of age story. I loved the nostalgia and musical references used throughout the story, although I'd quite happily forget about scrunchies. 
The story is told retrospectively but is set in early 1990's America. The story focuses on teenager Layla and her last year of high school, where she meets new boy Trip. It's a bit of a slow burn at times as the action takes a while to build but once the story got going I found it enjoyable and sweet. I was a young child in the 1990's and appreciated the insight Torrest gave readers who were too young to remember it.
Layla both amused and irritated me because she's a little immature at times, but with all coming of age stories, this is to be expected. Layla definitely matures and learns many lessons. 
My favourite character was definitely Trip. He managed to avoid a lot of the pitfalls which often happen to characters in similar books; he's nice enough to be really likeable but has enough edge and charm to be swoon worthy and irresistible. 

The secondary characters made me smile. The friendship between the girls, Lisa and Layla was realistic because it wasn't always perfect.

I was expecting the story to be told across several time periods and wasn't expecting the ending - BUT I was pleased with the ending because it wasn't predictable or cheesy. I'm looking forward to catching up with an adult Layla in the next book.
