In his place now resides a cruel beast whose only desire is to control her. Ginny’s life as she knows it, becomes indelibly marked with every bruise he leaves on her, and every callous word he sends her way.

When the unthinkable happens, Ginny is forced to find the strength she needs to leave and rebuild her life without Blake. Yet nothing could have prepared her for what was still to come. Ginny believed the nightmare was over, but it was only just beginning. Her husband is back, and there’s only one reason he’s here.

Exclusive Excerpt:

I glance down to the faded and weathered-looking wood panels of the bench I’m sitting on. From a distance, you don’t notice the beaten, worn appearance. It’s only when you get closer you see the extent of the damage. The colour stain on the wood lifts in various places. One slat is cracked and brittle to the touch. It even feels damp underneath my legs due to the coldness of the day. It’s damaged, but it’s still here, providing what it promises. A respite.

Some would choose not to sit on this bench, instead preferring the modern shiny versions further down the road. Yet for me, this bench is a flicker of hope. Sitting here means I’m one step closer to talking to somebody. One step closer to proving that the situation I’m in is not normal or right.

My focus rests on the alley across the road where today I had hoped I would find the courage to walk. But uncertainty lingers in my heart and mind like a dead weight, holding me down.

To passers-by, you’d be forgiven for believing I possess courage. I appear well groomed and in control. How can I be anything else? Why would I want to admit that I’m ashamed of the person I’ve become? I’m so used to faking a smile that at one time, I wondered if it was fixed permanently on my face. Now I know it isn’t. My smile no longer presents itself freely. It’s displayed as an act. A performance.

My hands jitter in my lap, the only physical indication of the fear and uncertainty that racks my body. If I go in there, I admit I’m that person, that woman who allows herself to be beaten. Only allowing isn’t really the right term. I don’t give permission. I beg for him to stop. I plead like a helpless child. How can I still love him, when I hate what he does to me? With each word and every shock of pain, I fear the love I have for him is lessening and the hatred growing. But the loathing isn’t solely for him, it’s for me too.

Walking away from Blake requires a strength that I don’t hold. Take now. I’ve been here for over half an hour, only occasionally daring to glance at the building I should be walking into. I sit, surrounded by high-rise buildings and impressive monuments, emphasising how small and insignificant I truly am. So full of self-pity, Ginny. I curl my lip up at the truth of my thoughts.

Company arrives on the other side of the bench, surprising me. On the four times I’ve been here, I’ve not seen one person even come near the bench. I don’t look up to acknowledge whoever it is. Instead, I move even closer to the armrest on my right, increasing our distance and feeling that little bit safer with the wood by my side. I shift my attention to the brick built buildings in front of me. There are a number of offices, some shops, but it’s down the wide alley where my focus lies. A trail of shops and offices lead to an alcove with the blue door that holds my attention. It’s only just visible from where I’m sitting.

I clasp my hands together in my lap in a bid to cease the shaking, but the movement causes my sleeve to ride up slightly, and the edging of the bruise on my wrist comes into view. Immediately, I tug on my jacket pulling the cuffs into my palm. My cheeks heat with shame, I dip my head and retreat further into the back of the bench, hoping for whoever it is sitting near me, not to have seen.

Love Me Crazy, an all-new Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde Romantic Suspense by M.N. Forgy is NOW AVAILABLE!

Legend has it that there’s an intangible red string that binds two souls destined to be together.
No matter the time, place, or circumstance, nothing can break the invisible thread between those two people who are meant to be together.

The invisible string pulling us to one another despite the danger our love created.
The town whispered about us.
Our parents threatened us to stay away from one another.
They tried to cut the string and keep us apart.
We simply tied it in chaotic knots, with no hope for ever separating them.
Together, we escaped and became the modern-day Bonnie and Clyde. Our getaway filled with crime and passion.

Here's to Tomorrow (Here's To, #1)

Book Blurb:

SEXY SINGLE DAD ROMANCE!

HUDSON
When I became a single father at seventeen, I knew my path wasn't going to be easy. Hell, sometimes it sucked. Year after year, I tirelessly busted my ass until my business was booming. Until my daughter was happy. Until life? It was good. Settled.

But sometimes being settled is overrated. Boring. Especially when a little excitement walks through my door in the shape of Rae Kamden. With her sarcastic mouth and smartass comebacks, she's the type of girl still sowing her wild oats and not looking to settle. Not with a guy like me.

RAE
I've been stuck in this small town since I was a child and nothing is going to keep me here. Not anymore. Done being tied down, I'm out of here the first chance I get. This town can kiss my ass goodbye.

I'm twenty-two. Single. Unwilling to settle. But if I did? It wouldn't be with Hudson Tamell.

So explain to me why the moment he looks up from under the hood of my car, the sarcastic replies on my lips come out sounding sweeter. Why does he make me want to settle down, right here, with him?

That's not what I wanted. But maybe it's what I need.

Here's to Forever (Here's To, #1.5)

Book Blurb:

HUDSON
I've been living in a blissful bubble for nearly a year now. Everything with Rae is perfect, and I feel like we're on the fast track to forever.

Then I go and do something stupid and suddenly we're speeding toward Splitsville. Well, to be fair, I've been doing something stupid. I just haven't had the balls to tell her about it.

It could break us. Or make us stronger. I'm only hoping she sees things my way...

RAE
I never anticipated my life looking like it does, living with my boyfriend and his eight-year-old daughter. But here I am, happier than I could have ever imagined.

Until Hudson screws it all up, telling lie after lie after freakin' lie. But he thinks he's "doing the right thing". He doesn't see things my way...

How am I supposed to say yes to forever when I can't even trust my tomorrow?

Maybe this was all a mistake...

Here's to Yesterday (Here's To, #2)

Book Blurb:

You're not supposed to fall in love with your boyfriend's brother...

HER
My entire life has been "perfect" for as long as I can remember. A loving family, a boyfriend who adores me, and anything I wanted, I got. But it was all a lie, a façade. My family isn't loving, my boyfriend is more interested in my body than my mind, and it turns out money can't buy happiness.

I've felt lost and stuck for far too long. Then, everything changed when I was least expecting it. It wasn't supposed to happen.

Not with...him.

HIM
I want to make one thing clear: I saw her first.

Not that it makes anything okay, but it's true. The moment she walked into my line of sight, I knew she was something special. I could see past the mask she wore, could see right down to her soul.

I recognized instantly that she needed a friend...and it just so happens I did too. So, I wormed my way in. Took her out on the town, forced her from her solitary existence. Together we grew brave, stepped outside the boxes we'd been placed in. Walked a thin line between "just friends" and something more.

I just didn't mean to fall in love with...her.

Book Blurb:

VEGAS WEDDING WITH A TWIST...

My life is full of regrets. I've screwed up more times than I can count, but I've spent the past several years atoning for my wrongdoings. I'm finally in a good place, ready to move on and step into the role waiting for me.

Then Haley Kamden comes crashing into my life, throwing me yet another curveball. Our relationship is one misadventure after the next. It's explosive in all the right ways, and so are we.

But I have baggage, and a lot of it.

I'm just hoping she can handle it...

Excerpt:

Churning seas, bright with blood.

Fire billowing over the water, and dark skies heavy with thunder…

“Aii!” The old woman awakes with a

start to find herself in her simple round room in her simple round hut. The
inner walls are dark, though she knows with the dawn the plaster will gleam
white. The floor is yet the solid, deep mahogany planks she has trod for
decades. The roof is still the weathered, bone-white but also bone-strong giant
supports of giant driftwood, with heavy, warm thatch over that. Here are not
the churning and frothing waters of her dreams. Not the billows of fire, not
the dark storm skies.

The old woman sighs deeply, patting

her frail chest as if to quiet the night terrors that had so recently fluttered
there.

To say that this woman is old is an

understatement. Chabon Kaidence is beyond ancient. Her pale skin is deeply
lined as if cracked, and her eyes are sunken – but there is still a spark of
vitality within their depths, like hidden stars. Even the folds and wrinkles of
her skin still glows despite its age.

The Matriarch of the West Witches

has been alive for a long time, long enough to know when a dream has stopped
being just that, and has instead, become a prophecy.

A pale hand moves unsteadily to the

wicker table, where a silver bell sits on piece of rough-woven, colorful
fabric. She rings it, once, for the silver chime to cut through the night like
a shooting star.

“Mother?” A voice sounds almost

immediately at the heavy purple curtains that hang over her door, and, for a
moment Chabon blinks from the glare of brighter light outside.

“You fool!” snaps another voice

behind the first, and into her room step two women: one is tall and lean, with
skin the color of rich, warm earth, and the other is as pale as Chabon lying
before them. The first has braids of black hair falling behind her back like
tree roots, whereas the pale woman has fields of golden hair streaming behind
her like sunshine. It is this fair and pale woman who snaps at her darker
colleague.

“Afar, you’ll blind the Mother.

Turn off that light!” she says angrily, pushing her way into the room to cross
the mahogany floor and stand at Chabon’s bedside.

Afar scowls for a moment, but she

does as she is advised, turning the notches on the lantern until it only emits
a dulled, yellowish glow as she steps into the room. Behind her, the Matriarch
catches a glimpse of the wooden walkways that stretch from one hut to the next,
crisscrossing the island of Sebol like vines.

“I am blinded by the darkness,

Ohotto, not the light,” Chabon breathes to her two most-trusted sisters amongst
the witches.

“Yes, Mother.” Ohotto hangs her

pale head in shame, as Afar steps to her bedside bringing with her a pouch of
rich and nourishing purple berry juice.

“Are you thirsty, Mother? Do your

aches pain you?” Afar says in her heavy voice. She is not a native to these
Western Islands, but she has spent many years here, under Chabon’s tutelage.

“No time to drink. I will repeat a

dream for you, a nightmare – and I want you both to remember it, and to set it
down on paper as soon as you can,” Chabon says. “It is a nightmare that I have
had many times over the years, but now it comes frequently, every moon! Every
week!”

“A prophecy.” Afar nods her head in

awe. This will not be the first such prophecy that has fallen from the oldest
witch’s lips. Afar Nguoa just hopes that it is also not the last.

“The seas are churning, bright with

blood, and atop the waves there are flames,” Chabon intones, her voice
carrying in the still airs of her hut. “There is a darkness to the skies, a
darkness that is more than thunder, but a darkness as if the sun is blocked by
great wings….” The old woman wets her lips, remembering the other parts of the
nightmare that she has had throughout her life. Like the stationary stars in
the sky can suddenly coalesce into a constellation when one squints at them
right, so the nightmares fall into place, one after another.

“There is a child, born from the

waters. A girl, rising from the north-east sea, under a dragon’s angry call and
upon her head is a crown made of leaping waves.”

Excerpt:

I’d been fooled once by the promise of quiet nights and serene days in the sunshine. I believed the brochure when it said I could leave my worries at home and escape to a simpler, quieter kind of life. I let myself be lured in by the picturesque landscape and stunning mountains. I foolishly fell prey to the temptation of leaving my current set of troubles behind in San Francisco while I hid away in the middle-of-nowhere Wyoming.

I now knew firsthand the glossy brochure that brought me to Wyoming the first time was nothing more than a bunch of pretty, packaged lies. I knew the bar brawl erupting in front of me was hardly the worst thing that could happen here. In fact, the level of bloodshed and violence was child’s play compared to what I’d witnessed the last time I’d stepped foot in this small, quaint town. Well, I hadn’t really been in Sheridan last time I was here. I’d spent most of my time in the backwoods that surrounded the Warner brothers’ ranch, which was still a good forty-five minutes outside of this tiny town. The ranch was where I was currently trying to get to so I could see my best friend.

When I left Wyoming, I told myself I would never come back.

Ever.

I told myself there was nothing here for me but bad memories and heartache. I was a pro at lying to myself, at telling myself exactly what I needed to hear to justify my actions. I could convince myself of anything, like it was okay that my last boyfriend stole my grandmother’s silver when I kicked him out because he needed it more than I did. I had no problem believing that pulling Leo out of the city was the only way to heal her broken heart even though she didn’t want to go. It was easier to distract her than it was to watch her wallow. I persuaded myself into believing what I needed to heal was space and solitude. I held onto that until time passed and I was still a mess. I was sick of my own company and of hiding from everything I was feeling. I was the one who always went out of my way to fix everyone else around me, it wasn’t exactly a shock to learn I didn’t have the skills to repair myself. I spent my days helping others focus on their goals, on doing better and achieving more, so I didn’t have to think about the lack of any ambition of my own. I turned thirty at the end of the year and I was still trying to figure out what and who I wanted to be when I grew up. I’d been aimless for a long time; the only direction in my life come from the fact I knew all the way down to my bones that I had to go back to Wyoming and face off with Sutton Warner.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What I Say: I enjoyed Cy's and Leo's story in Retreat but I liked Sutton's and Emry's even more. It's full of so much raw emotion and heartbreaking action which I couldn't put down.

Jay Crownover introduced us to the handsome Warner brothers Cy, Sutton and Lane in the first book. The brother in focus here is damaged cowboy and middle brother Sutton. Sutton is angry, sloppy and generally falling apart. He's carrying the world on his shoulders as well as a huge amount of guilt about the events in Retreat. He pushed Em away because he blamed himself for what happened to her and is at risk of loosing his lovely daughter Daye.

Em is a survivor. She's been surviving for years even more the events of Retreat, done by utilising her number one coping technique of running when something becomes too difficult. This time she decides to face the pain and tries to make something beautiful out of it with Sutton. If only he'd let her.

The topics are not easy. Jay never shies away from portraying the ugly side of life but she always manages to do so with great compassion and more than a little romance and humour.

Be prepared to be shocked. No really, you will be shocked. I'm usually pretty sure where a romance is heading but Jay throws one heck of a surprise in here.

I loved getting to read about them fight for their happiness, to find a way to help each other. I'm currently planning a trip across the pond to Wyoming to check out the Warner ranch.

We NEED to get Lane's story in Escape tout suite!

4.5 Stars in my Sky!
